Greenlizard0 Weekend Football Thread ** spoilers ** [28th January - 2nd February 2017]

Not a bad performance from us but keeping with the last few weeks we're not having any luck with decisions. I just hope we can keep our key players fit for a while and can start kicking on.

Oh and Firmino. I've said it before and I'll say it again, there are times when you really have to question whether he's a footballer.

Yep. Another shocking performance but expect him to get better once Coutinho hits top form. Not sure where he plays with an on form out and out goal scorer in the team though.

**** you arsenal, win 5-0 and then lose 2-1 at home, wtf is going on.

you know the Southampton team that conceeded 5 was practically the U21 side yeah?

Great penalty for the neutrals amongst us who want Liverpool to win this :D

Not convinced many neutrals wanted Liverpool to win

At this point its Chelsea's title to lose anyway even before tonight, no - one is going to catch them without some major injuries

Arsenal doing what Arsenal do best, losing to Watford of all ******* teams.

Hilarious absolutely hilarious performance from what I heard.

when you make a comparison - surely it has to be a reasonable one in that case?

Facing an U21 side and then a "proper" EPL side, of course its going to be hugely different

It's just typical Arsenal, predictable and uninspiring. Chelsea will embarrass us if we play like tonight.

Unless that centre forward does the other work that Klopp expects then Firmino still plays. And I'm not sure how Coutinho being on form helps him score free headers from 10 yards out and stops him skying sitters.

One thing I'll say in his defence, even when he's not playing well like he's not been, he's never a passenger. He'll always put a shift in and his work rate and intelligence in his pressing is key to our attacking. It would be great if he didn't have these games where he forgot how to control, pass or finish though.

He strikes me as quite an instinctive player. Give him time and space and he looks a bit of a mess, like tonight, but get him playing quick one-twos and intricate football and he's looked a world beater at times. Agree about his style though, you regularly see him tracking players right back to our 18 yard box which is a key component to Klopp's pressing from the front style.

It's not so much the tracking back in our half but the way he and Lallana in particular just know when to pounce on the oppositions CB or deepest midfielder and we're able to break.

we need, and have done for a while someone who can unlock a back 5. alli and eriksen should be our men for that but they were both off it tonight. we shouldn't have sold sig

Why Kane wasn't at the ball for that header instead of old 50p piece head Wanyama I don't know. Davies was so ordinary too, blasting over the bar instead of trying to play someone on.

The lack of people on the bench that can make a difference is really hurting.

I can't even mock Arsenal for losing to Watford now.

united will beat hull tomorrow and gain momentum!

given how many chances Utd have had recently to gain momentum on those above us and not taken it , I really wouldnt be surprised if the performance isnt more like that of the 1st half of the semi second leg where Utd were just disjointed and uninspired
Admittedly tonight's game is at home but even so, we were awful against Stoke and Liverpool so nothing can be taken for granted.

Plus JM is adamant that he will leave one of Utd's best attacking players on the bench (Martial) instead of playing him to gain confidence / form etc

They have 15 games in like 45 days. Theyll drop off soon enough.
Currently only 10 on the fixture list, and if Utd dont maximise on the next three EPL games (Hull @home, Leicester away at the weekend and Watford @home a week later) its pretty irrelevant , as last 7 games look to be a nightmare - all of those above us except Liverpool in the last month of the season.

At this point I really wouldnt mind putting a very 2nd string heavy team out vs Blackburn, go all out in the home leg vs St Etienne (who's current form is very up and down) and hopefully get enough to "hang onto" away from home. EFL final may be difficult otherwise without fresh legs as Southampton have two weeks off before - Sat 11th Feb being their last match before the final.

Hazard needs to sort himself out again, he's been woeful since the start of the year and that was handy point all other results considered.

Firmino's teeth are fabulous.
