Greenlizard0 Weekend Football Thread ** spoilers ** [28th November - 3rd December 2014]

Problem is, how far back do you go? Is it fair that 5 minutes later the other team score but on appeal it goes back to a free kick just outside the box down the other end? And you can't stop a game straight away on appeal because it could be used to stop the opposition breaking in the 90th minute even if it isn't close to being a wrong decision.

The comparison to tennis is pointless because the game stops after every point. You can't do that in football.

Yup, it's laughable, considering the money involved and the betting involved having a fair outcome in a league with one of the highest revenues in world sport seems nuts.

Tennis already paid what at least 7 officials to watch all the lines and decided that that wasn't accurate enough and use video replays(and more advanced technology coupled with it) to improve the fairness. One ref and two linesmen over a massive pitch with a lot of limited views due to number of players and it's deemed good enough. It should have been in football at large for 5+ years and in the EPL, being one of the first leagues to start bringing in huge huge money, should have had it for at least 15 years.

One thing where their is resistance is from the local county FA's not only in the UK but in other countries also.

Their contention is that the rules are the same for your local Sunday League right upto the national game. Therefore football is a level playing field. For the premier league, Serie A, La Liga etc to embrace full video technology there should also be some technology to assist lower down the pecking order. Plus the other contention is a cup game. Say Arsenal play Peterborough. Do you have full video technology because its at the Emirates but not if it's at Peterborough.

Not saying I agree with that but thats a flavour for some of the thinking behind the resistance to change ;)

Jesus, that replay from that angle, nothing blocking his view, he's looking pretty much right at it, shocking. Someone should check his bank balance, or his wife's call history... maybe Aguero is on it ;)

The other thing for me is - its the thin end of the wedge. Ie is it only for some decisions that video replays will be given , ie just pens or any "major decision" (and therefore how to define this).

There was a lot of resistance to goal line tech but its working well this year it has to be said (but Im sure there will come a time when for some reason it gives a false reading somehow).

edit - also just for an instance - how does it look if for instance an English Utd player last weekend wanted a video replay of the Wilshire/Fellaini incident.....one English player looking to get another one sent off .... that could turn into (with the press putting their oar into it of course) a lot worse than the incident deserves/deserved.

In general I think video replay if kept strictly under control as to how its used could be a good thing, but imo its also going to be hard to control what instances its used for (over time)once its introduced

so an appeal gets "launched" during a counter attack from which they score......

do you let the game flow and counter attack continue (which you kind of HAVE TO) .....or do you halt everything until the appeal is seen? How to make each viable result fair to both teams

Its a can of worms (potentially)

You let play continue until the ball is out of play, then you review it?

I feel too much can go on between the appeal and the stop in play though. Red cards, goals etc. Do you just ignore everything that happened if the appeal is successful or is that player still sent off?

Goals yes, that wouldn't have happened the way it had if play had been stopped if the appeal was correct

Red cards it depends, horrible challenge reds should stick, pulling down the last man no.

‪#‎THFC‬ team: Lloris; Chiriches, Fazio, Vertonghen, Davies; Lennon, Bentaleb, Mason, Eriksen; Kane, Soldado - spurs.to/EvertonMC
Subs: Vorm, Dier, Kaboul, Chadli, Dembele, Lamela, Paulinho. ‪#‎COYS‬

chiriches and fazio as cb bentaled and mason as cm. what could possibly go wrong here then?

expect a lot of gormless and confused looks, coupled with the shrugging of shoulders and lloris pulling his hair out.

What happened to Natastic? Won the PL with Kompany with the best defensive record then never played under Pelligrini. He was only 19 then too.

2-0

Can we have a separate thread for improving tech in football?

Since I've got more into football the more I see how behind it is compared to rugby/tennis/cricket/NFL/NHL....
