Greenlizard0 Weekend Football Thread ** spoilers ** [29th December 2012 - 2nd January 2013]

Though I don't often like his decisions, I like that Webb steps up to players and doesn't stand for screaming and complaining. I wonder what would happen of Fergie and Webb actually were enemies rather than lovers.

From what I can make of it, it's not something that'll keep him out for the odd game now and again but that his knee could go pop at any minute and he'll be finished.

Chelsea are the perfect club for him, they can afford to literally buy him as a disposable player.
If he scores a few goals, helps keep them in the champions league places and his knee explodes and his career is over, they dont care.

Same can be said for most footballers knee's though, a liagament goes and 9/10 players are never the same again, no ones ever actually said what the problem is. He outfights, out works players every single game and hasn't had a knee injury in his time in England. its most likely some "looks bad on an x-ray" issue but is just something different he was born with that actually isn't bad but looks different to a "normal" knee so they think its liable to fail.

Meh, buy him give him silly money and a solid "if that knee screws us, you get a small payout and nothing more" clause.

What's he going to do, get 60k a week at Newcastle for 5 years then his knee goes and gets the remaining contract paid up then retires... or go to Liverpool/Arsenal on 100k a week, plays for 5 years, has a clause meaning he gets no more money. 5 years at 100k a week, or 7 years at 60k a week.... which is worth more, its a non issue as I see it. Ba will "win" if he gets more money despite a clause, and the club wins by having a great player till he MAYBE gets injured and if he doesn't, they just win even more.

Exactly. Few other clubs can afford to gamble so much money (when you take into account his wages over 4-5 years) on his knee holding up. He might turn out a bargain but they may only get 6 months out of him at a cost of £20m+

That idea is embarrassing, true.

We could have been playing Parker as the DM and Lampard as the ACM for the past decade, instead we played more often than not Lampard as the more defensive central midfielder and Gerrard as the more attacking central midfielder... the worlds single most consistent attacking central midfielder... played as a DM to fit in NOT the worlds single most consistent attacking central midfielder.

As to who is better, Lampard is still Chelsea's best player at 34, Gerrard is widely spoken about as having been basically terrible for two seasons and he's only 32. Lampard this season is still basically better than Gerrard in his best season.

Holy **** my sides DM, hahahaha.

England could have not been **** and not played 4-4-2, might've helped a wee bit.

Not much changed for Rafa at goodison there.
