Greenlizard0 Weekend Football Thread ** spoilers ** [29th March - 3rd April 2019]

If sissoko wasn't a rugby player this would have been over

He's utter **** along with Lloris, again another one who's always been gash. Quite why Spurs got rid of Dembele when they've got that turd playing, ill never know.

The commentators seem to love him though, because of his energy. Well yeah, he's energetic alright the problem is he can't play football, he also can't hit the target from 12 yards out under zero pressure. I'd be ripping his balls off if I was Poch.

Demebele was broken, no one wanted to sell him; he could play football with numbing injections but was basically crippled afterwards and it was severely impacting his general quality of life.

Our squad looks tired and flat; for 10 mins the old energy appeared between Kane, Ali, Eriksen and Son. Summer will bring changes, which are probably needed, because Eriksen and Alderweireld will go. Both a players I would like to keep but they probably need new challenges.

Poch will need to recruit wisely to keep building. I think we could use some dynamism in midfield and our central defence will be weak without Tobey. I dont know if we can attract upgrades on those players and Lloris is really unpredictable but, again, who is the accessible upgrade to him?

Today was a carbon copy of last seasons game vs Spurs at Anfield. We were comfortably the better side in the first half without creating enough clear chances to kill the game. Just like last season Spurs made a change at HT which we failed to adapt to and although Spurs weren't creating chances, you felt that a goal was on the way. Some of the comments post game about how well Spurs played was way ott though - they barely had a kick first half and despite having a lot of the ball I can't think of a chance they had before their goal and then they had 1 huge chance with Sissoko at the end as a result of us overcomitting, chasing the game.

Harsh on Virgil. That was outstanding defending
Like how well Spurs supposedly played, this is getting over done too. VVD certainly does well, does everything he possibly can do in fact but it was still a very good chance for Sissoko that you'd have backed any of the forwards on the pitch to take.

Eriksen should also have scored

There was one more massive chance for spurs too .

Spurs had far more huge chances than Liverpool despite Liverpool looking the better side. Liverpool didn't have that many clear cut chances, whereas spurs had at least two huge chances to score more goals.

Spurs best pressure periodperi also much more dangerous than Liverpool's best patches.

A draw would have been fair but fair play to Liverpool for regrouping and grinding out the win.

When was this massive chance? Eriksen had a half chance but he doesn't really do anything wrong, Robertson was just close enough to block the shot. Other than the goal Spurs had 1 big chance + the Erkisen blocked shot, I'm struggling to think of anything else that was even a half chance. Other than our goals, we had the Van Dijk header which he really should have scored but not much else either.

I'm not criticising Spurs btw, but the way Robbie Keane was going on and Poch in his post match interview, you could have been mistaken in thinking that Spurs had a dozen clear chances to score when they didn't.

Normally Eriksen would have found the net, he is cool enough to move the ball gently to the side of the defender and then strike it in. I cant even comment on sissoko... I loathe the player. We used to have a destructive midfield of dembele and wanyama (who was on fire 2 seasons ago). We are now down to playing sossoko as our first choice.

Goal, plus sissoko plus eriksen. Ali had a half chance and during our period of pressure we looked quite incisive. I always expected Liverpool to win (and their quality of play at times was excellent) but I didnt see any huge opportunities missed. Whereas with Spurs really should have scored 3 today.

Edit- you cant blame Poch - the team has looked very depressed, flat and tentative. He is doing everything to build up confidence and swagger again. He tried laying into them and it didnt work. Now he is trying to encourage them. Fundamentally, the squad is too thin, it doesnt have quite enough quality and is over tired.

I wasn't blaming Poch for the result or performance, I was commenting on Keane's comments and this idea that Spurs played exceptionally well. They had a lot of possession 2nd half but they really created very little. Alli's shot from the edge of the area was no more a chance than Mane's 2 from similar positions in the 1st half and Eriksen's blocked shot was no more a chance than Salah's blocked effort from Alderweireld when we had the break at 1-0 in the 2nd half (when he really should have slid Mane in) - you could argue both could have done better but they weren't clear cut chances. Outside the goal Sissoko's effort was the only time Spurs had a clear opening to score. Spurs' 2nd half performance was no better than our first half performance and there really wasn't much in it, in terms of balance of play or chances created - as I said VVD should have scored with the header at 1-1 and Sissoko for you, other than that it was nearly moments without creating clear chances.

I agree with you regarding Spurs' squad, particularly in central midfield and when I saw you going in with Sissoko as your holding midfielder I was really disappointed we didn't set up in a way to play around and behind him but it's clear that Klopp's tactic vs Spurs is to play with our highest energy midfield rather than our more technical midfielders, to pounce on you and counter attack - it's the way we've played the last 3 seasons at Anfield and at Wembley earlier this season.

VVD's positioning was great don't get me wrong, but Sissoko made it very easy for him. Sissoko had two options and he took neither, he could have played the ball back to Son earlier as VVD would have had to change the direction he was facing or he should have been more direct/faster towards goal and forced VVD to come across. All it would have taken for that chance to be converted into a goal was a player with a better footballing brain.

Sissoko shot was appalling, even given VVD's decent defending , even if nothing else it should have been on target.

Was an entertaining game for the neutral (never could decide whether I wanted Spurs to win to make it more difficult for Liverpool's title, or Spurs to lose to help Utd's top 4 chances lol) . Shocked at how many Liverpool chances were spurned especially in the 1st half

Did make me laugh at how many headlines Mo got given he really wasn't responsible for anything apart from misses etc - I hope If Liverpool do win, they send a medal to TA / Lloris lol

a win tonight and we go into third place, 2 points clear of spurs. That looked a dream just a few weeks back.

UNAI’S RED AND WHITE ARMY!!!

Everything has fallen into place for us to yet again slip up when the chance has arisen from other teams dropping points.
