Greenlizard0 Weekend Football Thread ** spoilers ** [2nd - 5th March 2012]

VDV shouldn't be starting anyway, not the kind of player we want in this fixture but walker and bale is good to hear aslong as they are fit. no parker though :(

I think Manu have got Spurs away at the right time. If they beat them don't they then have 8 easily winnable games?

A month or so ago I would have fancied Spurs, can't see them taking much from united this week.

Should be a great game for neutrals.

Depends on how Bale plays, Spurs were completely rubbish against us, refused to play as a team and Bale was doing his superman impression, ignoring passes thinking he could take everyone on himself, yet fluffing most of what he did and flopping over like a *****.

4-4-2, Sandro having an excellent game, Bale left and Lennon against Evra and Spurs have every chance. Some dodgy freerole Bale, isolated Adebayor, refusing to take advantage of Evra's weakness and if Rafael/Fabio play their love of a stupid tackle against fast players and then I can't see them winning it at all.

Spurs when they play passing/attack football with the right formation and no completely daft idea's look very good, unfortunately managers doing overly well tend to start randomly tinkering with the team and throwing their form out the window. Why you've started messing around with Bale anywhere but the left god only knows.

we have been very good at WHL this season, really been able to play some great stuff but the psychological side of things is getting to us with us achieving well in the league, the redknapp and england thing and the thumping we got at the emirates last sunday could all lead to another car crash.

i just hope redknapp's given BAE a boot up the arse and doesn't play kranjcar. king is playing too but i'm not sure whether i like this news or not.

this is how i hope we start

friedel

walker kaboul king BAE

lennon modric sandro bale

i'm not sure whether i'd prefer a 2 man attack, adebayor and saha/defoe or put livermore in the midfield but i can't see utd creating much through the centre so we may be better with 2 up front and try and attack from the word go with lennon and bale tracking the utd wingers

Some good matches there with the NE derby in there too.

Both Liverpool-Arsenal and Spurs-Utd are tough games to call to be honest, wouldn't be surprised with any of the three results in either game.

I was kinda hoping Valencia was fit enough for an appearance (even off the bench) , after his injury a few weeks ago was said not to be too bad at all - but maybe this game has come a little too soon.

Would really have liked Smalling at the back for a little more solidity, but I guess thats not even in question given what happened on Wednesday (any further news apart from him , and Huntelaar going to hospital?)

Spurs should come out fighting after their thrashing last weekend

Despite what many in this thread may believe, there are teams other than the "big" teams playing over the weekend, for example it should be a good game at the Brittania tommorow, a strong recognised top half team against a newly promoted one that wants to stake its place in the top half.

When Stoke came to our place they snatched a draw in the 90th minute after we had a man sent off. We have improved as a team since then however the Brittania is never an easy place to go and get a win and no idea how we will handle against a large, physical side like Stoke. Could go either way.

Shock horror as people are caught talking about the bigger games, like 1st vs 3rd, rather than Stoke at home. Live updates on this story as we get them.

Looking forward to the derby.

No predictions as its always impossible to predict but here's hoping we can hang onto bragging rights! :)

None of the fans of them clubs talk much about them so why would non fans suffer having to talk about it?! :p

Talk about your games and others join in, I can even derail the thread and get half a dozen posts about Newcastle inserted into the top 6 weekend thread with some effort! :D

Don't come in and whine, join in and get the debate flowing!

Theres some big decision to be made for SAF for this one. Imo to best combat the Spurs wing play (Bale in particular) we would have Valencia on the right (helps the defender so much) Rafael as right back and smalling (our most mobile and athletic CB) in defence. Obviously Valencia is out ( :( ) but I also fully expect Jones to be picked over Rafael  . I would doubt that smalling would start too and I can't see either full back getting much help in this from Evans or Rio.
As for Berbatov/Welbeck, there's no denying Berba is currently the more capable of the two but I think Welbeck has synced up with the team very well and seems a more natural fit. In addition, as much as I like Berbatov I feel he can't have too many complaints. You just never know what you're going to get from him. One game he's unplayable, the next he looks half dead. Welbeck is the more consistent and shows a real appetite for the big games too, another issue Berbatov has.

Who the hell are Newcastle? I thought the league stopped at Arsenal?

I'll try and do them if you want Robbo or we can take them in turns?

Sorry I didn't do it this week, completely forgot and I've not been on here much.

I've no idea what to expect with the Wednesday game, I want a win, I'm not sure if the reaction will be positive or negative.

We've signed Liam Lawrence out of nowhere! We might win a game or two now!

Class player. Was immense n our promotion seasin scoring over 10 goals and being rated as the opta best player. I still think hes better than some of the rubbish layers in our midfield now :(

I'm happy to do them but you can if you actually want to. :p

:D

The league always stops 1 position above Newcastle. Earlier in the season when top4 became the top 3, then the top 2... Then suddenly the top 4 again when Newcastle dropped off  :D
