Greenlizard0 Weekend Football Thread ** spoilers ** [2nd - 6th February 2018]

Wheels well and truly off for Chelsea, they've gone from a team that were solid and rarely conceded more than one to shipping in goals to the likes of Bournemouth and Watford. Not good.

I didn't say that. Violent conduct is a 3 game ban, whether you rub noses or punch a player and a red in an under 23s game results in a suspension for under 23 games.
Well if that's the case it's wrong .not your fault but Liverpool hopefully will fine him to the maximum as hes let them down

It was a stupid reaction. Who knows whether we'll fine him but the reality is that any action they can take (I believe the max fine they can give is 2 weeks) will be meaningless.

Lets not go too far. They're still in the CL spots, not a relegation battle. Every time you think Conte/Chelsea are about to implode they string together a few wins again.

The difference is Mourinho's collapse started from the start of the season, or arguably the end of the previous season as they did poorly in the last 4 5-6 games, tight wins against poor teams or draws and a 3-0 loss to WBA.

When Mourinho's collapse happened their worst run was 3 losses, 2-1 to West Ham, 3-1 to pool and 1-0 to Stoke. Before he got fired it was 1-0 win against Norwich, 0-0 with Spurs, losing to Bournemouth 1-0 and Leicester 2-1(when leicester were great).

Right now Conte has gone 10 games with only 2 wins, against Brighton in the league and Newcastle in the cup. Two draws and a win on penalties in the FA cup to Norwich including that game with two stupid red cards, draw and a loss to Arsenal in the league cup, two huge losses in the league to not high quality teams.

I think all season there has been signs of an impending collapse, games where Chelsea just played awful football but still won. But the last 10 games have been terrible as a whole and even before then, tight win to Southampton, tight win to Bournmouth in the cup, beat Huddersfield comfortably, lost to West Ham, etc.

At this point the 2 wins in 10 in all competitions is absolutely as bad as things were under Mourinho when he got fired.

Yea I was about to say, the interviewer is being really awkward. Tbf, I wish Sky reporters would ask tough questions of managers but usually they just accept the bs answer they're given and move on.

Like I said though, every time you think Conte's on the brink he pulls a few wins out and we start again. You only have to think back to last September, there was a lot of talk that he was about to be sacked then too.

Fwiw, I think he wants to go now and I think he's trying to get the sack. The question for Chelsea is who do they bring in that will make a difference in the short term?

You think that because he had 2 losses in 5 games that he was almost getting the sack last year, lol. It was an embarrassing performance against Arsenal and I can't recall how the game played against Liverpool but they only lost by one goal. The only way you get sacked that early into the year is if you do what De Boar did, lose 4 games on the trot in the league, play exceptionally badly and two of those losses to relegation candidates. Outside of a few reactionary fans and some clickbait headlines he wasn't remotely close to getting fired at that point.

2 losses in 5 when the losses are arsenal and Liverpool isn't the same as 2 wins in 10 when the wins are Brighton and Norwich and the two losses are Bournemouth and Watford, both being loses by 3 goals rather than losing by one goal to Liverpool.

**** knows with Chelsea but as I said, there was a lot of speculation that he was getting sacked before they went on that winning run last season. IIRC there were even reports saying he had actually been sacked.

The point behind there's been an uneasy relationship between Conte and the board at Chelsea almost since day 1 and he's seemingly been fighting the sack ever since he took over.

The offside rule's always been a mess but it's instances like this that take it beyond a joke. Lovren 100% has to try to intercept that ball to Kane as he cannot know if Kane is offside or whether the official will flag for it. Kane's clearly interfered with play (literally speaking) and gained an advantage. 99 times out of 100 Kane's given offside there and the officials say it wasn't a deliberate action by Lovren to deflect the ball backwards, which is what Keith Hackett's said applied here:

Again, the big issue with today isn't the decisions made but how they've been made and what's been shown on MOTD is pretty damning for Moss. He's seen clearly trying to get help from TV replays and despite having to be 100% sure to award a pen or send a player off, he's openly admitted to guessing on the first penalty decision.

The offiside rule is now a complete mess. If they want to make an exception, the defensive player should only be able to play an offensive player back onside if he comes into actual possession of the ball.

Keith Hackett has called for the International Football Association Board to clarify the rules and also for a full investigation into Moss:

There's been contentious decisions before but I think this is the first time I can remember so many officials and ex officials comment on something and for them to be completely split. Halsey, Hackett and Clattenburg have all said it was offside but Gallagher and Poll have said it was onside. If they can't agree then there's clearly something wrong.

The only reason I follow football at all is because of my matched betting, but to see Chelsea get spanked to tremendously by the likes of Watford and Bournemouth (on home turf as well!) is quite something. Great for us matched bettors though, we're making a tidy packet out of them.

Rather happy with last night's result!
Didn't feel the red was fair and changed the game, the penalty was a bit soft and I felt that it should never have been given initially but I suppose there was the slightest of touches. Still, happy with the 3 points and some goals :)
