Greenlizard0 Weekend Football Thread ** spoilers ** [2nd - 7th March 2018]

Are you sure about that? They drew 12 games, scoring just 73 goals and picking up 90 points. City are on course to score 109 goals (50% more than the invincible's) and pick up over 100 points! This City side aren't just better than any previous PL side but more entertaining too.
Its not fair on the Invincibles to compare directly, its a completely different brand of football in a different era of the game

When they were around the Invincibles were a better side compared to those at the same time vs City are right now (and the Invincibles didn't cost the staggering amounts that City have put into their current squad either, even in comparing like costs )

Plus you cant put a stat on entertainment value.

Arsenal back then played better then city with arsenal's quick counter attacking football and some amazing goals

How much they cost isn't relevant to what you said. City are a much more entertaining side and I'm not sure how you can say that Arsenal were better relative to the competition either. Arsenal finished 11 points clear at the top, City are on course to finish over 20 points clear (based on their ppg and the chasing pack's).

So I guess we have truly hit rock bottom now, losing to Brighton. What an utter utter joke arsenal have become. What’s that our 3rd straight loss now.

After buying Aubameyang, selling Sanchez and Giroud. I honestly thought things may change for the better but it’s become an absolute joke and nightmare. Never agreed with selling Giroud, thought that was a stupid move from us.

Arsenal should just forfeit every game now till end of season, it’s got that bad that I can’t even see who we can beat now :(.

The Invincibles where a much more entertaining team than the current City team

It's not fair to compare when someone disputes your own comparison?

Wait, what? At the invincibles time you had Utd with a slightly dodgy squad and Chelsea had just got their money but were building. THe team needed time to gel as do most teams. Right now City are competing in a completely different era of super clubs both in europe and the league. Even Spurs without super club money have an exceptional squad. They currently have the best striker in europe and in Son and Eriksen two of the most form players in the league.

City are competing in a dramatically more competitive era of the league top to bottom, I'm not sure I'd call them more entertaining just because they score more. They certainly are as entertaining. Arsenal scored a LOT of counter attacking goals that were beautiful team moves, City score maybe a few less like that but still score plenty of amazing goals and lots of fluid team movement.

As for the invincibles being better than those around them? Arsenal that season had a 11 point lead over second, 15 points over third by the end of the season. City already have an 18 point lead on Liverpool. I think it's fairly clear the gap between City and everyone else in the league is far larger than the gap between us and everyone else in the invincibles season.

Making that era More competitive then now

Yes it is relevant, because everything is down to money these days - football is less about entertaining and more about the business side

Its not all just about stats its about how its played - today's match was boring for the independent because City basically did nothing at all for the 2nd half, they could see Chelsea had already given up and barely put any effort in (nearly as bad as Arsenal for the last few months) - its about how they perform relative to how good they can be, and today they were as bad as Chelsea

They were prepared to do just enough to get over the line, not anything more. That proves its got nothing to do with entertainment

Top four today is less competitive than 10-15 years ago BECAUSE of the big gap between 1st and 2nd (and only likely ot get larger). Just because 2-5th is closer than usual is irrelevant because of much larger gap above.

Frank, you can say City are better and more entertaining because they've spent more money but you didn't say that. You said that Arsenal were more entertaining than this City side.

You're right, it's not all about stats but stats can give you a fairly good idea of some things and if a side is going to score 50% more goals than another, I think that gives you a good idea of how entertaining their game is. I've not read the Independent's match report but I'm not sure why it would have been a boring game for them.

As for the rest of your post, I only had 3 hours sleep last night so maybe that's why but I honestly have no idea what you're talking about. The top 4 is less competitive but the gap between 2nd and 5th is closer but that's irrelevant because City are miles ahead but you also claimed in another post that Arsenal are better relative to their competition than City, even though City are much further ahead than Arsenal were

I think your plan to win a debate is to confuse the life out of me.

I wish we were playing like City are at the moment.

Let's face it, fans will take winning over entertainment any day. I didn't see many Arsenal fans complaining when we won the title under Graham

It's not a sense of entitlement that Arsenal fans are complaining about that we are not getting our way.

It's the nature of the demise over the last decade that is the issue. The board, Wenger spinning rhetoric every year how he thinks we have a team good enough to win the league, the arrogance, the same scenarios every year, not signing players in positions that everyone knows we need etc....

Over and over and over again. At least for the last 10 years.

Nothing changes.

I remember upsetting a lot of people when I said Cech wasn't nearly as good as he once was and wouldn't make a big difference to Arsenal when he signed. I told you all so :p

His head injury was such a shame because before that he looked like he was going to rival Schmeichel as the best PL keeper ever.

i remembered when i told u guys 6 years ago that a certain someone should leave the club but got told "careful what u wish for"!!!

You'd maybe have a point if 5 years and 364 days ago you didn't tell us Wenger was the best manager in the world and change your mind once a week ever since.

Did think it was funny how Arsenal fans thought it was great having Sanchez leave and PEA and Mkhi come in like your issues were with one of your hardest working and most passionate players and not the utter **** show that is Arsenals defence and general attitude.
