Greenlizard0 Weekend Football Thread ** spoilers ** [3 - 5th November 2012]

So anyone watching WBA vs Saints this evening? Monday night tv games are my kind of away days and I am off to the midlands soon, hopefully with appropriate amounts of Sabbath for the car journey.

Probably will loose but it'll be funny

I have a love hate relationship with the SSLMNF.

If I watch them they usually stink the place out, If I fall asleep they end up being cracking games that I dont get see any of.

I might watch it actually, Ramirez is back isn't he?

Yep gaston is back! The most important bit really. Should be a decent turn out for this as it was £15 a ticket for everyone. We have all our foot attacking options fit and they have a few guys who will destroy our cb's, I'd be dissapointed if it wasn't hight scoring...

I do apologise, he set a player up yesterday, he's clearly not ball greedy in the slightest :p

This basically;

Suarez is a good player, he'd be better if he passed or cut the ball back more often and Liverpool invested in a 'goal scorer'.

Didn't he also set up Sterling yesterday too?

This idea of him being greedy is massively exaggerated. The reason why he takes as many shots as he does is because he's usually on his own. He created plenty of goals for others when Kuyt and Maxi were in the side during his first 6 months with us and still creates far more than most now.

Player turnover is NORMAL for EVERY CLUB, even the best, and even the best players from the best clubs, this is completely normal.

Correct, however what isn't completely normal is for a successful team to be completely dismantled so quickly. If you look at the 2004 side, with the exception of Clichy (who was only the backup LB anyway) they had all left after 5 years (to include the summer at the end of season), which I've literally never seen from any English title-winning team before (I doubt it has happened in any major league, in fact even taking winning the title out of the equation is EXTREMELY rare for a stable top flight club to go through such a wholesale change of the team, possibly Man City might have, maybe Chelsea if you took a team before Terry came through and they bought Lampard, both of which were due to extreme circumstances in terms of a sugar daddy coming in). All the other successful teams have retained a least a handful of their champions for over 5 years. Heck drop that number to 4 years and the only player left from the starting XI was Toure!

Can anyone think of any other team in a big league that has won the league undefeated and come of the start of the season 4 years later only has two of the medallists (never mind actual starters) remaining?

It's a very sad running joke.

You can eat three sausage butties in a row but the third one won't taste as good as the first.

I like Soton. Reasonable attack, shocking defence; what do they do? Attack their balls off. Good stuff.

Really like gary neville as a pundit. Best on tv; respect to him for making the transition so well.

Finally made it home from the coldest game! Good burger, good chips and alright ground shame about the result.

Could have done with a little more luck, need to be a bit more decisive for the first, the second what can you do on the break like that, every team in the prem concedes those. Pretty much result as expected, West Brom are a good solid enough side, naff keeper, thought Long was a joke and they didn't do much with the ball, rest of the squad are good and Mulumbu ran the show in midfield.

We were just as silly, all the possession just no one being incisive. Shame Gaston isn't 100% fit as he looked good in the middle and the team in general played properly, no stupid own goals, no calamity moments, no being worse than we were in L1 play, just poor luck and a frustrating lack of confidence.

That and we got mugged good and proper by Burnley for the worlds single worst transfer of Jay Rodriguez. Paid £6m for a bucket of hype and a lot of absolute let down. Not a winger at all, not a striker that can play anywhere other than poacher, not good enough finisher for the prem. Simple as that, we have to stop persisting with the idea he can play up top in front of Lambert as its Lambert that has to win the ball in the air, can't play on the left because he's rubbish and tonight he showed he's useless on the right. An utter mugging.

Haha I can live with that as sensible :p

time must rapidly be running out for southampton's manager.

Nah if it was 8-0 and a decimation then yeah but can't sack him yet for a game we could have maybe nicked a point from. Loose Saturday and loose at QPR (now going to) then yeah he's gone but realistically that will relegate us by christmas no matter what we do and we can't get in a replacement who will fix it, just down to the players to find that bit of confidence.

I can't help but think that Rodriguez is playing in the wrong position. Having played out left for the first 5 or 6 games it has effected his confidence and as such resulted in poor performances.
Adkins is still the right manager for us in my opinion. Something has gone wrong this season within the boardroom but his achievements should be enough to let him try and change things.

Pingwing you hit the nail on the head when you say that a little bit of confidence will make all the difference.
I just hope Adkins is given the chance!

Also I can't quite believe just how bad saintsweb is. Having grown up with a poor saints side doomed for relegation every season it's difficult to see so many people turn against the team.

Yeah we probably haven't helped playing him all these places but we've stuck him up top a bit (or he's annoyed everyone and wondered there) and he's nothing special at all. Needed a big year in the champ this season to get something as with us he just looks a white elephant with a fee like that.

Saintsweb cracks me up on days like today, everyone thinking 'Arry will fix this.

No one seems to remember the old messes or why 'Arry always ends up sacked in the first place (he's useless)

My only thing I think Adkins can do to help this is to get Davis and Morg to stop nannying the back 4, they drop deep so much in the 4-2-3-1 that its like playing 6 at the back when we are in possession so can't go forward. They just need to trust the back line and the keeper needs to shout a little more and be involved in the middle of the park more.

It'll get better though, Adkins clearly has someone at the top saying it's alright we have the fixture list and there's only a few dropped points so far.
