Greenlizard0 Weekend Football Thread ** spoilers ** [3 - 5th November 2012]

Not sure if I'm being harsh on Jones but he should have done better for the goal. It was straight at him, no more than head height.

Suarez is a genius. To take that ball down, coming over his shoulder, on the run and with Coloccini on his back was something special.

I see what everyone meant about the red, that was a red for sure.

Means he should be banned for when we host Newcastle at the end of the month :) (we need the help)

It was a fantastic finish, I must say. A bit ironic that for all Liverpool's passing the goal came from a long punt forward though!

Haha. I was waiting for that. I'm not sure it was simply a punt forward though. Great pick out by Enrique :p

And Pardew changed his tune in his motd interview, admitting that it looked like there was intent.

Shelvey had a shocker but agree with the comments on MotD that he changed the game. Sahin playing the advanced role and Gerrard sitting back doesn't suit either player so I don't know why Brendan won't switch them.

Judging by Enrique's all round performance I'm saying that was an attempted clearance. :D

Niall Quinn made a decent observation ( :o ) that half the time Suarez will carry the ball into really good positions but half the time his team mates will just watch rather than making supporting runs.

It's going to take some very impressive editing skills to make this game look anything other then terrible.

I think Enrique's useless and I've been saying that more or less since he joined, even when others were praising him but the one thing he does do well is pick Suarez out with those type of balls.

I mentioned it after the game and touched on it in the transfer thread, we have no wide forwards. Suso's a midfielder and Sterling's a winger. Neither have the attacking instinct (right now anyway) to get into the box when the play's on the other flank. Both Sterling and Suso are already very handy players and are huge prospects but you can't have a front 3 when only 1 of them is a genuine goal threat. Our problem is that with Borini out, none of our other options right now are goal threats either. January can't come soon enough.

Borini wasn't a goal threat when he was playing though and never looked close to being one. He's the Italian Kuyt, all work and no goals.

Edit: Is that 6 or 7 bookings for diving in the last 8 days and none of them for Suarez!

Give the guy a chance before writing him off.

Think back to the chance he missed vs City - yes he missed it but when Sterling's picked the ball up wide on the left, Borini's instinct was to come in from the right and get into the box and he could/should have scored. When Suso or Sterling are picking the ball up out wide, you don't see the other making those runs into the box.

He clearly wasn't 100% comfortable playing on the right but it was very early days and imo he showed enough in glimpses to encourage me that he'd do a job for us - similar to that from Kuyt from '08-'10.

I won't start calling him Borinis just yet but the jury's out as far as I'm concerned. If Rodgers had confidence in him he would've been playing through the centre but it seemed like he was just making up the numbers while he as playing. Hopefully he'll come good because we can't afford to have any more expensive flops.

You can only play 1 through the middle and it takes a brave man to move Suarez out of the middle when he's playing that role so effectively.

Disagree about him simply making up the numbers - we sacrificed something by playing him out wide but for the reason above, he was a potential goalscorer in the side which was something we lack.
