He has scored 7 goals in our last 8 games. He's probably our most effective player despite how hopeless we've been as a team.
I keep seeing that but what games is this counting exactly? Are we talking about premier league and his games last year, 2 against Norwich, 2 against Newcastle, 1 against Villa? Three of the most awful teams around at the end of last season.
A striker who is awful for 89 mins and then gets a few goals is one thing, a play maker who the team depends on being awful for 89 minutes but pops up with a goal or two isn't the same.
no.10 or the AMC in a 4-3-3 needs to be good for 89 minutes even if he never scores. That role is integral to everyone around him playing well(the midfield 2-3 always is, the attacking half and defensive half of central mid is ludicrously important). He's been poor over and over, he has an inability to effect games. Whenever the opposition puts him under pressure he's incapable of moving those 5 yards with the ball to create the angles himself, he's entirely reliant on having space and people making brilliant runs around him. but in a top team that role/position needs to be able to dictate the attack, not just supplement it.
Effective is interesting as 5 of the goals he scored against those teams made entirely no difference to the result. He got three assists earlier in the season against Fulham, Stoke and Cardiff, and 2 of those assists made no difference, the one that did, against Fulham, got them a draw.
