Greenlizard0 Weekend Football Thread ** spoilers ** [30th January - 3rd February 2015]

Bellerin looked solid as did the rest of the defence. Le Coq looks like a decent player now, that loan spell at Watford did him and us the world of good.

Great display. Enjoyed that.

Coquelin was on loan at Charlton, for a month, played 5 games. Did nothing for him other than being more match fit than he'd otherwise have been. He's been this good for 3-4 years, just barely ever used by Wenger for no reason at all. Miles better than Flamini, less injury prone, less reckless, fitter, faster. Much better than Arteta in that role, Coquelin was just being completely ignored regardless of how good he was.

I hope Wenger will learn we should continue with him but I fear he will be dropped the second someone he prefers better is fit. Imagine how good Coquelin would be today if 3-4 years ago he started playing 30+ games a year, he'd be a significant amount better than he currently is. Could have been 150 top level games ahead of where he is now.

Arsenal were mustard today. There's something about them since the City game. Confidence is flowing and the defence looks a million times better with Ospina between the sticks. I think the clean sheets at City and today sandwiching the 2 goals at Brighton that Chesney let in confirm that.

Would love it if this was the start of Ozils resurgence. Let's not forget, 2 years ago, the fella was a Ballon D'or nominee. Only very special players get that honour.

I bet Sanchez was chomping at the bit to get at that Villa defence.

lynch pin cleverley playing?

why hasn't lambert been sacked yet!

Because inexplicably Villa have 5 points more than Leicester, 3 more than QPR and Hull and 2 more than Burnley. Those teams are even god damned worse... somehow.

Maybe even more ridiculously they are one point away from having the same number of points as 13th in the league...... Villa are that god damned terrible that they are closer to 13th than a relegation spot, it paints 13th and down as embarrassingly awful.

One goal is highly unlikely to make the difference come the end of the season but, ultimately you have to give younger players a chance to come through, get some experience and some confidence. Cazorla didn't need any and as it happens came exceptionally close to fluffing it. Akpom won it, should have had the chance to score it.

It could also work against him, regardless of the score if he took it and missed = confidence gone.

I am truly embarrassed at Villa. Sanchez is one of the worst players i've seen in our shirt, and he's in the same team as Cleverley.

I think we'll go down, I really do. Without scoring the best we can do is a 0-0 draw, and draes eon't keep us up. The teams below us are at least capable of winning games. We are not.

I stand corrected, I though it was Watford. I never saw enough of him to rate him before this season.

I also hope AW continues to use him. He looks solid defending.

Third down are pretty embarrassing, really weak league this season

11 goals all season for Villa. That's incredible.

It's even more incredible when you look at the strikers they've got. The top half dozen sides aside, Agbonlahor and Benteke are, on paper at least, one of the best strike pairings in the league.

Quite early in the first half he went across and wiped some player out, but fairly. It's a tackle you would see Kompany, or Matic, or Gilberto do. It was completely fair, an excellent tackle, low to the ground infront of the player, took all the ball and the player went over his outstretched legs. It was just powerful, direct and what was needed, stopped an attack but it's the kind of physical tackle that Arsenal lack. The kind of tackle that would make opposition players who run with the ball a little afraid, intimidated. Spend to long on the ball and you'll be put on your ass and lose your team the ball.

Honestly that tackle summed up what Arsenal haven't had in almost a decade since Gilberto and what he could provide us. I'm not certain he's good enough, he's maybe a tad small, if he played 40 games in a season like that would he end up a perma crock, who knows. I have wanted for at least 3 years to see him given a run in the team because he's showed a LOT of potential.

He's also pretty versatile, he's looked more than competent covering both left and right back and he can now and then get forward from central midfield. A little like Matic in that if the opportunity is there he doesn't look horrific running 20 yards forward into space, again something Gilberto could offer alongside the defending.

He was on loan in Germany was it last year, but the morons were basically awful and using him as a winger and he wasn't particularly impressive. Was a case of a bad loan and more about getting rid of him than trying to develop him.

When we loaned him out it was nuts, this was November, we had left back, right back, CB and DM problems in injury terms. He could cover 3 of those positions so we loaned him out, played injury prone players even more often then had to cancel his loan.

Agbonlahor has been dire for a couple of seasons now and Benteke has been poor since his return other than a couple of good finishes. He's been greedy, lazy at times and his shooting's been nowhere near as good as it was in seasons past.

As for how we're not rock bottom, before today we had the 5th best defensive record along with Arsenal, and surprisingly enough the bottom three are Leicester, Burnley and QPR. You can bang them in all day but you'll get 0 points if you let even more in. We've been okay defensively, today was an example of what terrible goalkeeping and playing a stupidly high line gets you.

The only positives from today were that Gil looks good and is willing to take on players and put a ball into the box and Sinclair made a couple of promising runs too.

I sure hope he stays in the team as well, he looks the sort who will take no **** from anyone.

If and when arteta is back, if he comes into the team and le coq is dropped I will not be happy.
