Greenlizard0 Weekend Football Thread ** spoilers ** [3rd - 7th February 2017]

How on earth does that goal stand. A yellow card challenge any other time. Commentators not even mentioning it as a possible foul. Completely took him out.

From that slow replay, Walcott as usual was terrible defensively and Coquelin, he looked around, saw the danger but stopped and didn't react at all when the ball was coming back. Too many players who do that, watch the play and react way too late.

I was saying for years now, we needed the likes of Coquelin, who was better than Song and Arteta by a mile but ignored for ages, but as a back up/rotation/apprentice. We need a 27-30yr old genuinely top dog proven DM for which younger players can learn and improve from watching and playing with. Instead we got Elneny and then Xhaka, who both have the same issue, they tend to jump in too early, be reckless and not predict the run of play well enough. They are watching each other, no one is learning from an experienced better player and none of them is progressing.

Another 35mil on a questionable DM when what we needed was the experienced player from which our younger players can watch and learn.

We had that situation where our DM was so bad that when Coquelin played people acted like he was utterly brilliant, because by comparison he was, but in reality he's no where near a top player. He's got potential but he needs to learn from a great player to improve.

I agree walcott should have tracked back, but how that challenge on bellerin wasnt a foul is beyond me,he could have broke his jaw with that elbow.

Was more dire defending there for that should have been chance. One CB went over to slow down the player at the half way line, that is fine, but then the covering player instead went over to him as well rather than running back to get support for the other CB. I think it was Coquelin, they had the two on one because Coquelin ran wide rather than straight back. Whoever it was, defending 101 covers that stuff, terrible stuff and if Costa hadn't had a brain fart we'd be 2-0 down.

Honestly my stream went fuzzy during replays(skygo, it's legal Baz), have only seen one angle on replay in gif form. I'm inclined to think he led with elbow but hard to see from the main angle. Thing is though contact doesn't equate to foul.

actually just checked and new gif is up. See, it's not a case of an elbow in the case that Alonso jumped up and swung his elbow back on purpose, his arm was forward, and he didn't have his arm locked or his elbow showing. he jumped exactly the same way Bellerin did, throwing his arms forward and up. The difference is Bellerin jumped earlier, was on his way down and Alonso jumped later and higher, it's the difference in angle the players came in from that meant Bellerin basically smashed into ALonso's elbow.

I think it's a lot more unlucky contact/timing, certainly no swinging his elbow towards him on purpose. Horrible contact but I think extremely unlucky both in the timing of both jumps and that the contact caught so damn perfectly to knock him out.

Glad they didn't play around with getting him off though for sure, way too many teams and players just blindly go back in after a major head impact.

Apparently being in acres of space inside the opposition box in a good position to shoot is just not enough time and space for Ozil. 99% of players would have let rip with a monster shot in the first or second touch. Enough power and you'd be looking at either a goal or a difficult parry hopefully right to the feet or another Arsenal player.

Just seen the angle of the Alonso goal from near the goal. Thats a foul and a red that. Hes purposely left his arms there to catch Bellerin.

Jesus H Christ, were there not enough players to defend there or something. Pitiful. I mean good by Hazard, but there was barely an attempt to tackle, AOC just half jogging, not killing himself by any means to add numbers. Coquelin trying to tackle from the wrong side, brain dead.

Why spend time tackling from behind when you don't have the ball you run faster, run beyond him, let a defender come to him and go and get in the defenders place. AOC and Coquelin again being utterly pathetic. There were multiple attempts to make him play up against two players at one time and give him less options but they backed off and went at him one player at a time, just dreadful defending.
