Greenlizard0 Weekend Football Thread ** spoilers ** [4th - 7th December 2015]

I stuck Lallana in my possible side as imo he's played well lately, certainly been more consistent than Firmino and Benteke but ultimately he falls into the squad player category. We can put an 11 out without him and we wouldn't be lacking anything. Lucas is our only option in his position and is hugely limited in what he can do.

The weakest area of our midfield and attack is our defensive midfield options. Would it be nice if we had a pacey goalscoring winger instead of/to compliment Coutinho/Firmino/Ibe/Lallana and a more creative option ahead of Can or Henderson? Without doubt but Coutinho/Firmino/Lallana/Ibe and Henderson/Can are definitely stronger in their positions than we are in defensive midfield.

We're no doubt weakest in that area but only because Lucas is the only player even remotely capable of playing that role. But, replacing him will have very little effect on our results compared to an attacking midfielder who can score goals.

Bit too early to judge Benteke and Firmino but I'd question how either are better in their positions than a player that's been widely regarded as our best player since Klopp arrived

With everyone fit I'd have Lucas, Henderson, Coutinho and Sturridge in 4 of the 6 attacking spots. The rest are fighting for the remaining 2 places.

Firmino is/was meant to be that goalscorer from deep. His performances have been all over the place though - he's either been excellent or terrible. Hopefully he'll settle into the side and start producing. I really fancy Coutinho to keep up his scoring run too. He's always got into the right positions but in previous seasons when the chance fell his way he lacked the composure he has usually in his game and snatched at chances. I'm not sure how much it has to do with the change of manager and how much is just a natural progression but he looks so assured in front of goal recently.

Tbh I'm not worried about goals. Benteke and Sturridge will score and Firmino, Coutinho, Lallana and Henderson will all chip in too. From Lucas backwards we're a worry. All our CB's (including Sakho) look like they could make a stupid mistake at any minute, Moreno can't defend on the back foot and Mignolet blows hot and cold too much.

We keep getting linked with strikers and midfielders from Germany so that suggests Klopp isn't too happy with what he's got. Not that I would too unhappy with Reus and Oranjeboom.

Keeper and attacking midfielder would be my picks if we bought anyone in Jan with a backup to Lucas, rather than a replacement, coming a bit lower on the list.

Not to surprised by the result tbh, said before the game it was a very creative light midfield and we needed Firmino to be on his game. Unfortunately he was frozen out, along with Benteke, with both getting minimal service. When it did go to one of the front 3 it was invariably Ibe and he still hasn't found what his game is yet for me.

Overall felt like a very Brendan Rodgers team performance.

As to what we'll buy in the window I still think we need a RCB and a RB, don't think we'll buy a striker as he hasnt assessed all his options. A Reus will be very nice though :)

We were constantly being linked with keepers only for Klopp to rubbish those reports. The truth is nobody knows who we'll sign or which positions. I think Klopp was telling the truth when he said January will be a market that we only look to if a particular player that we want becomes available or if we're particularly short in a certain position.

As for buying a backup for Lucas, why? Why buy a player inferior to a player who needs improving upon? Surely you buy an upgrade on him and Lucas is your backup.

Or the links are just churnalists chucking excrement at the wall and coming up with whatever they want?

Not sure another attacking midfielder is needed at all. Aren't Firmino/Coutinho enough, when taking into account the backup/rotation/development potential players they have in Lallana/Ibe/Teixeira (worth gambling with him sometimes... mainly because his ridic piece of skill earlier this season :p)?. Then surely it'd be better to get an upgrade from Lucas, meaning the starting eleven's better overall... and it'd mean players like Can and Henderson could get forward more/have less defensive responsibility. Going for an attacking midfielder in Jan seems crazy!

instead of flirting, why not just commit? this is probably why you probably can't score chicks

come on the toon! hope they build on it but doubtful... if we lose to spurs it will be head down again. We have the players to stay up man, just *no disguised swearing* try like that everytime!

Where did you send him Andy? Maldives or Spain?

I'd ask Barca really nicely if they'll send us Masch back.
We were really spoilt with him and I would be amazed if we found anyone so perfect for the DM role for a long time :(

If we raid the German league perhaps Lars Bender or Luiz Gustavo. Don't really know of anyone else and don't know if either are any better than Lucas.
