Greenlizard0 Weekend Football Thread ** spoilers ** [4th - 8th March 2016]

Schneiderlin was fantastic for Southampton most of the time, perhaps worth considering why so many players who were good elsewhere, like Di Maria, Depay, Kagawa etc. are turning up at Utd and then turning crap.
.

Depay has gone up about 3 levels so that's a different consideration - I would agree about the other two though.

Didn't help that Kagawa was continually played out of position - whether Utd ever suited him, or whether it was tactics /the league that just wasn't suitable I don't know, but before and after his Utd stint Kagawa was a brilliant player in Germany

But if the team is bad then surely it's all the more impressive that he's still doing well? I mean for most of the season his only outlay option was a crap Rooney, we've got 2 inexperienced youngsters on the wings and if Herrera isn't playing then he has no support from midfield. He's done far better in the centre but he's got an idiot manager that stuck him out wide most of the season.
.

Today is just one of the many days when he hasn't done well at all - he is far too invisible (even in his favoured no10 role) for majority of the time

No "still" about it in the slightest

No-one pays £30m+ for a player at this level at his age (with experience of the league) for him to be invisible most of the time no matter who is around him

If Rooney is not playing well (or at all) he should have stepped up - and for the most part he never did /has

Stepped up and....done what? We play 1 striker, for most of the season that guy has been terrible. Mata is a creative midfielder, who is he going to create for? If we get rid of Mata it'll just be Kagawa and Di Maria all over again. Selling a player because we have a manager too stupid to play good football. Herrera will probably follow in the coming seasons because as a club we hate players that can pass the ball.

As Kenai says there is a reason all these talented players come to united and flop and then go elsewhere and magically become brilliant again. It's because we've had a series of clueless managers.

What's so funny?

He's clearly passionate about what he does and has been asked to talk at a time when emotions are clearly quite high. Sure, that's his job but it can't be easy to hold back 100% of the time in that situation.

96th minute, that's got to hurt.

"Subs were crap" "Why were they crap?" "Let's not debate this. You're trying to antagonize me." He criticized himself, invited a follow up and then kicked off. Complete and utter meltdown.

The best thing is he doesn't make any sense in his response either. He comments on his subs, Shreeves asks him about that and he goes off on one about the interviewer should accept his opinion on the penalty and he doesn't want a debate on it. Shreeves asked him about his subs

He isn't a midfielder at all he is an No10 which means he should be creating AND SCORING goals and for a lot of this season he hasn't done either

Heat of the moment.

Well we didn't play that we'll in first half we just played well in patches of the game but got the result in the end so all that matters. We did play better with 10 men which says it all as multiple tines milner did a crap cross or just ran it to no where so we didn't miss him at all

klopp must've had a word with benteke and his penalty why would you risk taking a penalty in that manner at such a crucial time?

Clean sweep of Sky and Motd pundits - all say it was a pen. The more I see it and particularly the camera angle from behind the players, you can see Benteke's ankle almost turn over when he's caught.

Because that's how he takes his penalties and he's done well taking them that way. If you're cool enough to do it then it's a great way to take pens - if the keeper goes early it's easy for you and if he doesn't you whip it into the bottom left corner.

MotD2 panel are adamant it's a penalty. Is DM Alan Pardew or that German bunny boiler that fancied Alan Pardew?

Edit: And why have that brought Lawrenson back? He's a **** FFS.

Still can't understand what Darmian is doing for West Brom's goal. He turns his back on to the game and is searching for his man - had he just been looking the right way he clears the cross comfortably.

That's a bizarre argument. Is Jack Butland any good? Was Matt le Tissier any good?

Carrick is a very good footballer at the tail-end of his career. He is on the way out, and needs replacing, but that's what *should* be happening with Herrera and (in my opinion) Blind when you buy some proper centre backs.

LvG has disappointed hugely in the transfer market, but actually I would say that you do have some top midfielders, they just aren't being used properly. Scheiderlin, Herrera, and Mata are all excellent footballers. It's at the back and up front that your team is paper thin!

Edit: I'm not strongly defending Carrick btw, he should no longer be a regular in a Man Utd team.

Carrick isn't even England international good at football. If you as a man utd fan aspire for man utd to be competing in europe etc you must accept that a handful of very good footballers isn't enough. You are going to come up against teams with some of the best Europeans and players in the world in the same team squad. Sadly nome of our players come close to that level.

Schneiderlin is a complete waste of money. He doesn't look like he can pass, tackle or shoot tbh at no point thus season did i think, wow this guy looks useful. He's been woeful.

Kagawa was signed to replace Park for our Asian fan base, like Dong Fangzouho.

Herrera was bought Because bilbao took us apart. His passing is really bad, shooting nome existent, but scored a penalty so nowhas adulation from some folks. He's not getting in the Spanish national team until first 11 that's for sure.mata scored a free kick last week. Big whoop the gamebefore didn't he miss a penalty that seemed crucian at the time. Hes a one step forward two back player.

we actually did better attacking after he went off. The good news is he's suspended fir a couple of games now.

Id love to know what its like, living in a complete fantasy world.

It should come as no surprise that our last glimpse of European success was led by a ballon'dor winner. Van der saar, rio, vidic, evra, tevez, etc all top of their games all international first picks. Plus a younger faster sharper rooney.
carrick just sat in the middle and hoisted the odd pass while the faster hungry players did the business.

Can you advise on any of those areas we have improved upon or bettered? If not can you advise why and why we would think we woukd still be competative against the likes of barca who have a strike force of Messi, Neymar, suarez. Or real madrid with Ronaldo, JRod, Bake etc

we are getting worse player for player.
