Greenlizard0 Weekend Football Thread ** spoilers ** [4th - 8th March 2016]

Tbh we actually looked better after the sending off than before it. I don't think the sending off has had any impact on us winning or losing this game. Nobody looks like they give a crap really, another crap performance against a lower placed team. Standard stuff really. I'm not even sure when our 1 shot on target happened.

rashford in the first half that was deflected narrowly wide

Standard LvG performance really, even excusing the red card we looked clueless. Terrible subs (Did you notice how we took off our only midfielder that could pass the ball and then we had almost 0 possession?) Then we're 1-0 down with 9 mins to go and he takes off a right back for a right back. it's just bafflingly incompetent. Martial did well today, he's trying his hardest to carry the team. Carrick was utter crap, Schneiderlin came on and was crap as well.

I dont know why lvg took an energetic and agile herrera off for a tall slower player in morgan when you were a man down. His subs are bizarre at times.

People often tell me carrick is good. I approach the challenge to overturn their opinion in this way. I ask; Are England any good at football? Of course not. Is Carrick good enough for England? No. Okay so how do you become a great club with midfielders who aren't even good enough to play for England?

You should be trying to sign the best in the world if you have a war chest of 100s of millions. Instead we end up with mata, Herrera, schneiderlin depay and carrick plus limdgard. How does that happen?

I did say i had googled it! Anyway why do they show Sir Alex every time Man U lose? If he goes to every game why dont he just manage instead, he can just have the settings like on Football Manager and make the assistant do all the boring stuff.

Carrick has been poor for 2 seasons, we only play him now because 'club legend' or something like that. He offers the team basically nothing any more. He gets caught in possession a lot, he's not good at breaking down enemy attacks, his positioning is really poor and his partner has to work twice as hard to cover his shortcomings.

I can only pray we took Herrera off because the game was lost and he's being saved for the Liverpool game. If LvG genuinely though that the substitution was going to improve us this game then he's an idiot.

That's a bizarre argument. Is Jack Butland any good? Was Matt le Tissier any good?

Carrick is a very good footballer at the tail-end of his career. He is on the way out, and needs replacing, but that's what *should* be happening with Herrera and (in my opinion) Blind when you buy some proper centre backs.

LvG has disappointed hugely in the transfer market, but actually I would say that you do have some top midfielders, they just aren't being used properly. Scheiderlin, Herrera, and Mata are all excellent footballers. It's at the back and up front that your team is paper thin!

Edit: I'm not strongly defending Carrick btw, he should no longer be a regular in a Man Utd team.

I agree about Carrick, at the tale end of his career and his contract should not be extended in the summer (and I'm not sure Schweinsteiger is much use in EPL terms but we are stuck with him)

Schneiderlin and Herrera hopefully have a good and long future at Utd but to be honest esp after today and that shocking weak-ass tackle in the Europa a few weeks ago this should be the end of Mata (he has been far too invisible for most of this season).

We need some real quality (Kroos would be lovely, but unlikely even if RM do the clearout rumoured) in CM

edit - I think Schneidlerlin just needs consistant game time with the same players (for the most part) around him and he will show his value

I don't know about Schneiderlin. I feel there's a good player there but he's had a pretty poor season.

Schneiderlin was fantastic for Southampton most of the time, perhaps worth considering why so many players who were good elsewhere, like Di Maria, Depay, Kagawa etc. are turning up at Utd and then turning crap.

Either Utd are getting mugged off over and over on players that look good but are carried by others or they're doing something wrong at a club level in terms of training and tactics.

Saying get rid of Mata is crazy. He's probably been our most effective attacking player

in a relatively bad team (considering the standards of the past) - that isn't saying much.

There are much better players (or even players of better potential) than Mata available in the summer, both wide and centrally

Today was in-excusable but that's just the latest of his talents which imo has shot himself in the foot.

He has only been (roughly) 1/2 as good as he was at Chelsea at his best for Utd, and even that is barely 60% of the time he is on the pitch.

It's unreal how close United still are to top 4. Only 3 points behind City, my god Pelligrini is a load of old ****.

They still have a game in hand remember - so potentially up to 6 points difference. If Utd were level after today going into the City match (Utd's next PL fixture) we could have stood a chance of over taking them, but cant see it now (especially as City will play an EPL game over the FACup weekend away to Norwich of all places)

Always thought that it was Arsenal and possibly Spurs Utd need to concentrate on, but now its only the former I think (even though Utd still have Spurs to play)

But if the team is bad then surely it's all the more impressive that he's still doing well? I mean for most of the season his only outlay option was a crap Rooney, we've got 2 inexperienced youngsters on the wings and if Herrera isn't playing then he has no support from midfield. He's done far better in the centre but he's got an idiot manager that stuck him out wide most of the season.

Yeah as I said, I feel there is a good player there. It's unquestionable we need to get rid of LvG, him and his staff are doing genuine harm to the progression of our players.
