Greenlizard0 Weekend Football Thread ** spoilers ** [4th April - 8th April 2014]

If he's grabbed his leg after he's touched the ball it's still a pen...

Any other part of the pitch, if you get the ball then impede, obstruct or foul, it's still a free kick. Stakes are higher in the box. If he hadn't grabbed his legs then it's not a penalty. hate to say it but it's a pen in my book

No, it's not. That picture is taken after Adrian had already got the ball. You can't see anything from a single picture, not even which way the ball was moving.

Quite clearly a penalty, brings his arm down on his leg and makes sure he isn't going past him, doesn't matter where the ball is, its a foul :))))))

never a pen for me. awful ref decisions today and some bad ones yesterday. when will they let technology help the officials??

adrian get the ball

Thank Fowler for that.

Not a great performance but credit to West Ham for making it difficult for us. Watching them vs Utd I thought we'd tear them apart on the break but they were so compact in midfield and didn't give us any space to play in the first half. Second half was a much better performance and were fractions away from creating several clear chances.

As for the refs decisions. The first is a stonewall pen and imo should have been a red - West Ham's covering defender's only coming into the picture after Suarez would have shot. West Ham's goal was a joke all round - the foul from Carroll's so blatant that you've got to wonder where the ref was looking to have missed it and for him to then overrule his lino took the ****. Our second pen I thought was harsh at first but watching the replay Adrian clearly grabs Flanangan's leg and the pen was the right call.

No it's not. If you get the ball then follow through into the player, it's not a foul unless it's dangerous. If you take that part of the game out, you pretty much end slide tackling.

So you are telling me, Suarez can attempt to hit the ball past someone, they get a foot to it, Suarez still running past them to collect it and they can grab him and drag him down? Theres a big difference between follow through and purposefully stopping their progress by pulling them down

What the ****?

Then you haven't got the ball.

In fairness looking at the replays of the Flanno one, it may have been a pen. The keeper didn't get the ball as far away as I expected. But in general, if you win the ball and then take the player out its a good tackle.

He's not followed through. There's a 2nd movement with his other arm and he's grabbed Flanagan's leg.

They are just clutching at straws. Blatant pen.
