Greenlizard0 Weekend Football Thread ** spoilers ** [5th - 6th November 2011]

Yeah I liked that as well, cant argue with Dixon's team either

Has it even been discussed about the renaming of the Northstand? Never a more fitting tribute

Wigan don't deserve to be in the Premier League.

Erm after 38 regulated games 6 regulated seasons they do, stats do not lie have, seventh season could be the decider.

Going down will not hurt Wigan Athletic, thats what I love oh no EPL crap greatest advert.

What's with the regulate, do you play Warren G when you score a goal or something?

Pleased that Wolves won.

Brentford are **** and have a small club mentality. They put everyone behind the ball and defended for 90 minutes. ****.

Haha - I doubt that somewhat!

I'm pretty sure that based on Brentford having more possession and more efforts on goal, this would testify as to us not putting men behind the ball. We played an aggressive 4-5-1. Hit the bar, defended very well and were caused very little trouble by Wednesday's hoof it forward. Was very happy to see Semedo go off, as he's a real CM and was probably the best player on the day!

Did you manage to see the match? As every Brentford and Wednesday fan (that I spoke to or have read their match reports) have absolutely no agreement with Gary Megson's report on the game.

Hillsborough is a fantastic stadium, great set of fans, great noise and some good players - but it's a pity your manager is such an arrogant, bitter old man.

In 20 years of going to home and away games - and picking up a program at every game - the Wednesday program was the first I've ever read which didn't start with the polite "I'd like to welcome the players, staff and supporters of the visiting club..."

Unlike the Wednesday fans, your gaffer has absolutely no class whatsoever!

As you obviously weren't there a quick scan of the match stats on the BBC website might help you.

Checking out the attempts off and on target show that Brentford spent more time in front of your goal than you did in front of theirs.

I'm a season ticket holder and stats don't tell the story of a game, were either of you there?

Brentford played defensive football, stuck all their men behind the ball, they counter attacked and played better in the first half, but second half it was defend defend defend.

Wednesday couldn't break down Brentford. Brentfords route one style of football made it very difficult for Wednesday to get a passing rhythm going in the middle of the park which ended up both sides playing hoof it football.

So as for the "you obviously weren't there" **** off. Unlike many people on these boards I go support my club week in week out.

Yes I was there. Referring to us as a small time club isn't much of criticism - we've not been in the Championship in almost 20 years, haven't been in the top flight for over 50 years and probably have a budget two or three times smaller than yours... so of course we're a small club! :p

Apart from your manager, you're the only Wednesday fan I've spoken to or read reports from that saw the game that way - having looked at Owlstalk, and a further forum, every remark I've seen so far has contradicted that and commented that it was a fun game and was deservedly drawn.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with playing defensive, counter attacking football away from home - hence why we had more efforts on goal. You've won 7 in a row at home (or something similar), we haven't lost away in 7, of course we're going to defend well. I personally feel it's impossible to have more possession whilst creating better and more frequent goal-scoring opportunities if we we're playing 9 men behind the ball!

It certainly wasn't defend, defend, defend in the second half, and I thought we actually created the better opportunity with your player blocking it on the line! Based on Wednesday's dead ball inefficiency I felt we were unlucky not to take all three points - particularly when comparing the opportunities both teams had! :)

What? You had the same chances on goal as Wednesday and more off target. You didn't create more chances then really did you? Both teams made the keepers make the same saves.

As for possesion, when you time waste and try and hold on to the ball, I'm sure you deserve that 1% more possesion then us.

Small time club, I can understand you not losing away from home if you turn up and defend away from home, thought it was a pretty dull and boring performance from both sides, but only one side (Wednesday) looked to win, Brentford turned up with the intention of not losing and stopping Wednesday playing, rather then turning up and trying to win a game.

I've no problem with drawing a game, I'd of liked to win the game but felt we weren't good enough to win the game, nor were Brentford, I repsect more teams that turn up and try and play football, Brentford didn't.

Also, found it funny how Brentford celebrated like they'd won the world cup at the end.

As for the "Well everyone I've spoken to agree's with me" most of the season ticket holders I sit with felt the same as me, poor Wednesday performance, hamstrung by a defensive Brentford.

If my aunt had a **** she'd be my uncle.

You should have seen us last year - we didn't play one moment of "football" home or away the whole season! :p

I was under the impression that goal-scoring opportunities meant "attempts" not "attempts on goal" - my bad. Was quite surprised our keeper was booked for time-wasting without getting a warning first, but as with most Brentford fans, I despise players taking far too long over goal kicks, throw ins, heading to the corner, etc.

Our away form is pretty fantastic - not having lost since Sheff United at the beginning of the season. Our plan certainly wasn't to draw, otherwise we would have played more defensive wide men. Our plan was to defend sensibly, whilst trying to score ourselves. Absolutely nothing wrong with turning up at a big away game like Wednesday and trying to... defend.

You should look to win every game.

Both Sides had the same chances on goal, Brentford had a single 1% more possesion due to their time wasting, as you had your goal keeper booked for that as you said.

You made lots of changes didn't you?

You should look to win every game.

Rubbish. Going to a team that has won 7 at home on the trot, going to play for a draw is just as satisfying as a win.

Stop being bitter just because a 'small club' prevented you from taking all three points :p

It's defeatist and negative to go in to a game and not look to win, League One being what is it any team can beat any team. Look at what Stevenage have done at times this season.

Same applies to the Championship.

Changes from our previous win? Kinda but it was more Megson's lack of research that was the basis of that comment methinks.

Every single away game this season we've played 4-5-1, and it's worked. At home we've also played 4-5-1 recently and it's not really worked - our home form has been shocking. The previous weekend at home we reverted to a 4-4-2 on the basis that, as everyone knows, Chesterfield have the worst midfield in the league and we didn't feel the need to play five across the middle. Other than that, the formation at Hillsborough was invariably the same as we've successfully enforced all season.

The comment about us celebrating at the end I don't really buy. Yes we celebrated... a lot. That's because you're a much better team than us, have a hell of a lot more money than us and a massive fan base. We have a great team spirit (for once), and I was just as pleased for them as they were for themselves. If we were jumping up and down after drawing with Exeter I'd certainly be worried, but against Wednesday when we limited you to so little, then I have no problem with that whatsoever!

edit - we hit the bar, and almost scored three times in the first ten minutes! - got to say I was shocked that O'Connor can pull of acrobatics like that still!
