Greenlizard0 Weekend Football Thread ** spoilers ** [5th - 9th February 2016]

United were lucky to get a point in the end after the 3 terrific saves De Gea pulled off, how they got him to extend his contract I'll never know there must be some sort of clause allowing him to leave for Real Madrid.

Watching Utd atm is like watching England (about 5 years ago). Score, then sit back and invite presure without a plan for counter-attacking. Pathetic.

I know it's fun to hammer LvG but if Depay can play the simplest through ball of all time to Schneiderlin at 1-0 and Utd's defence not stepped aside for Costa then Utd walk out 2-0 winners and well worth it too.

Get Mourinho in ASAP. It isn't like it can get much worse. We are 6 points off top 4 so the only way is up.

I'm not saying it will get worse but it clearly can get worse. People seem to forget that Mourinho just got sacked for having Chelsea near the relegation zone.

The ship has sailed for LvG as far as I'm concerned, he'll be gone before too long.

We were a lot better today, but for the last 3 months we've been beyond terrible, and let's not forget Chelsea are rubbish as well.

And De Gea made at least 2 saves that would have ordinarily been goals, I think. That was bad from Depay though, he needs a mental reset as he's struggled a bit and is a mess at the moment.

Ultimately a very small part of Mourinho's career though. An anomaly.

DDG put in some amazing saves to keep us ahead/level and we sat back for the last 30 minutes of the game. The problem was 90% tactical. Defenders will make mistakes, especially young ones. We essentially invited Chelsea to score for 1/3 of the game after playing pretty well when we actually tried to score and play in a positive manner.

As much of a mess Chelsea are in, they're still a very capable side with players than cause any team problems. In these big games your keeper is always going to be called upon a couple of times throughout the 90 minutes but overall today there was no tactical or structural problems. Utd were the better side and had it not been for 2 awful individual mistakes Utd walk out comfortable winners and no questions are asked.

I know the LvG debate goes beyond today but today in isolation you can't have any justifiable complaints with him imo.

And fwiw, I'd hold Blind to blame for their goal ahead of the young LB. His decision to chase Terry outside the box leaving Costa free was braindead.

.

Fellaini actually starting is a dubious decision to start with

Leaving the CM as it was for so long in the 2nd half when it was clearly being overrun with Schneiderlin on the bench

Herrera only getting 2 minutes at the end

At least three tactical decisions he got wrong today

Too true. Was actually enjoyable to watch the game today. Our past two games have been a lot better than previous. The Top 4 have big games next week. We really need to hammer Sunderland to keep our top 4 chances alive!

rofl can't have any justifiable complaints with lvg? That is delusional. Anyone could see that sitting back for the best part of 25 mins and letting them attack at will was going to result in them scoring.

So today's delusional thoughts from LvG:

Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal, speaking to Sky Sports: "Deep frustration because we were the better team. Again. And we didn’t win. We had the better chances but we didn't win.

"We played a superb game until the last quarter. Then we did not keep the ball in the way I think we have to. Then, we were unlucky and we get a goal against us. It is unbelievable. We don’t reward ourselves.

"This is also because Chelsea is pushing with long balls and more aggression but nevertheless you have to keep the ball and be composed when you defend; you are not kicking the ball way without any meaning. Also we could have scored again after the first goal but you don’t reward yourselves. When you play such a game against a team like Chelsea, you have to reward yourself."

1. We didn't have the better chances
2. We didn't play 'a superb game'. Maybe for 20 mins at the start yes.
3. Blaming luck, standard 'I don't know what I'm doing' response.
4. Chelsea playing long balls? Um we were the one who were playing long balls for most of the game.

Also lol at him complaining that we don't keep possession when he chooses to start Fellaini every week and leaves Herrera on the bench until the 94th minute.

You're playing away against Chelsea not at home vs Norwich. You cannot honestly expect to dominate 90 minutes of the game and not have a spell where Chelsea take the game to you chasing an equaliser.

You were the better side overall today and even towards the end of the game you looked more likely to score on the break than Chelsea did. The reason why you didn't score your 2nd and Chelsea equalised were down to 2 individual mistakes not tactical problems.
