Greenlizard0 Weekend Football Thread ** spoilers ** [6th - 11th April 2012]

Did Harry just lay the blame for that defeat at the feet of people who were asking him to play 4-4-2? God forbid he ever has to take a job where the whole country has an opinion on what he should do...

Make me instantly think of Mike Bassett!! He'd be a perfect fit for the England job now. Harry that is, not Bassett. :D

Surely Arry cant still be being considered for England manager after the way Spurs have bottled it this season

Confirmed Bryan Ruiz out till June/July with a broken foot/metatarsal. Bad news, but also good news at the same time, means another spot for Kacaniklic and Frei to compete for, considering Frei has just turned 18 he is looking a fantastic player.

What have you heard or what are your feelings towards the chances of Fulham keeping Dempsey and Dembele syke?

Dembele will be wanted but while he's been excellent his goal return, and assists is pretty awful, 1 goal 2 assists, 50 shots, 30 games, its not exactly fantastic. There is a lot more too him but he doesn't really carry a goal threat, though does create chances for other people to get assists a lot. He's got this very promising look to his game but does too often pick the wrong choice, take a shot when he's really not a goal scorer.

It's tough, someone mentioned Liverpool being interested to add goals to midfield, which sounds nuts for a guy who can't score. The problem being, as always, why buy a relatively expensive non scoring Dembele when there are other higher scoring players who are really as good around. Liverpool need an Arfa, Valencia, Messi type or anything in between, someone who has assists AND goals in them because currently the midfield is a pile of poo, so would Liverpool spend big to take the team forward, buying Dembele who can't score?

Likewise who else is likely to go for him, Dempsey, has been there long enough I can see him showing some loyalty. He could leave for a top four team but I wouldn't think anyone else, and who in the top four would buy him? He's too small a name for Chelsea, Utd don't need him, City won't see him as a star buy, and I can only see them buying one or two big names in the summer, Arsenal have wingers to burn, sure most **** but its a numbers/wage thing, we can't afford another 100k a week winger/striker when we've got so many.

Newcastle, actually I think he'd work exceptionally well with them, give them some good options for rotation and resting and really he'd be a very very good buy for them if they get European football.

Dempsey is good at Fulham but I do wonder if he will make the step up, shouldn't have to pay 20mill though as he is in last year of contract at the end of the season.

With Dempsey it's about now or never for the 'big' move, at 29. If he goes Fulham will obviously be disappointed but its something to be expected. Jol has said he wont sell him, so I guess it's a risk of if he doesn't sign the deal, he can walk into that big move at the end of next season. It just comes down to whether he joins one of the top 4/5 and become more of a sub/squad player, or stay with Fulham and probably hit legend status within another season or two!

With Dembele hes still young enough to stay on another season or two, as a striker he's just not good enough with his goal return, but his overall play as a midfielder is fantastic, I think i read somewhere that he had one of the highest tackle rates at one point in the season. Technically on the ball he has to be up there as one of the best, but he doesn't directly assist - but is always involved one way or another.

If either were to go, it'll have to be £10-16m. Dempsey is the biggest threat to leave really, his position is covered by Kacaniklic/Frei, but the goals....god knows where that'll come from.

Good stat;

10 - Only Pa**** Demba Cisse has scored as many Premier League goals in 2012 as Clint Dempsey. Streak.

Watching MOTD loads of empty seats at the Villa game! the fans fed up with the manager, the owner or something else?

Then again it must be pretty testing being a Villa fan they're never quite in contention for Europe, never quite bad enough to be in a relegation fight, don't win any cups, don't sign any big players the only bit of excitement is when they sack a manager :p

Villa fans hate McLeish, don't want to pay to see **** football. And they were charging Stoke fans £40 a ticket!

TBH villa could be pushing for the CL and still wouldn't turn up for a game against Stoke :p

Only joking, Villa vs Stoke has to be about the least exciting sounding prospect in the league at the moment, at least Stoke vs Wolves you're pretty much certain of a few goals as Wolves are just that bad. Villa fallen further than anyone else in the past couple years(liverpool giving them a run for their money though).

Liverpool would be mad to buy Sessegnon he CAN be good, but while Bendtner has scored or assisted(or both) against Chelsea, Newcastle, City, liverpool, West brom, Sessegnon has one assist against City(in the 1-0, one against Everton(while they were attrocious) and the rest largely against the bottom 4-5. Their best goals/performances have come out of Bendtner and especially Larrson.

Sessegnon will buy the stupid buy, much like Downing, the guy everyone randomly decides is the best player. Larrson would be the VERY well spent money for any top club, though lack of pace I'd suggest would make him more of a rotation/supersub for a top 7-8 side tha a flat out starter in say CL games, he's just quality. Passing, crossing, set pieces, vision, work rate, brilliant player.
