Greenlizard0 Weekend Football Thread ** spoilers ** [6th - 11th April 2012]

Two points behind third..... if they hadn't lost guys for the acon, and a couple injuries and bannings to compound that part of the season they'd probably be sitting a few points above Spurs/Arsenal about now as well.

Likewise Arfa has only come into form in the past 5 games, not surprising with leg injury last year his start this year was controlled, safe and well executed(yeah, I'm thinking of rushing Wilshire back :( ). Arfa and Cisse from the start next year will help massively, plus any more strengthening though they've got Acon again, so they'll still lack strength upfront for a month next year. If they can sell one of your two lame duck strikers and get a third really good backup striker, who knows.

Another great result, lets hope Sunderland and Man City can do us a favour this weekend. Would make things really interesting.

I can't imagine how tight frankly, ok Chelsea SHOULD beat Wigan but, waiting for the Di matteo bubble to fail and Wigan are actually almost what you could call in form.

I said last week, I wouldn't be surprised if Arsenal, Spurs, Chelsea and Newcastle are all within 2 points of each other by Sunday night, the worst thing is Spurs/Chelsea have been in **** form, Newcastle had a run of **** games a while ago but have used that great form to get back in contention, Arsenal have just been on a 7 game winning streak, have hard games coming up and, generally fall apart at the end of every season. But after winning 7 in a row Arsenal should have been chasing down City, not just getting ahead of 5th place.... but some fans are convinced Arsenal have turned the corner.

What in the heckaroo, the swear filter has gone bananas, run of "h a r d" games..... is filtered? Seriously?

Fantastic result.

Seems Pardew had went out with a clear game plan of "let them **** about with possession as much as they want but when they get the final third get stuck in and get rid" and it worked perfectly. It wasn't that they lacked penetration we just played much better and completely shut them out where it mattered. All that possession is worthless on the halfway line/own half.

Perch, Cabaye, Guti, Tiote, Cisse, Arfa were all fantastic and the rest chipped in with solid performances. We never looked in danger for a team missing both their starting CB's that is pretty impressive.

Cisse is an immense buy and I would say without a doubt he is the best finisher/poacher in the leAgue. There are plenty of better forwards out there but I would take no one over him to have a chance at goal when it matters. Like King Cole returned :p

Now hopefully we won't do a Newcastle special and won the hard games before the wheels coming off in a game we should comfortably win (Bolton) Keep the focus (and hope Tiote's hammy is better) and we can keep pushing on! Fifth! Unreal!

HAWAY THE LADS!!

I thought the ACON was every two years?

We need a left back so that Santon can move back over to the right and another defender. I quite like Best, I think he gets more stick than he deserves and we need to keep Ameobi for the Sunnerlan games.

It is but I forget the circumstances why it has to be played next year also

Indeed We need fifth at lest. I don't trust Liverpool knocking out Everton in the FA cup

Cisse has played like 8 games for Newcastle, he's already got more league goals than Suarez has scored all season :p

I can see there being interest in numerous Newcastle players, in the summer... but I can see their scouting team attracting as much interest, tbh.

The scouting team are Newcastle fans why would they want to go anywhere else(if you were finding a lot of gems for the team you support you wouldn't want to do it for another team) its not as if mike Ashley can sell the scouts

because cash is king

let's not get ahead of ourselves here. there's no denying the signings are delivering but it's a little too early to give a convincing judgement.

still, great impact in the pl and a pleasure to see an owner re-investing transfer money well, especially as it's liverpools money :)

They're still making far far to much of a big deal about the scouts at Newcastle, while I've basically never seen anyone give credit to scouts at other clubs.... honestly it reeks of "we hate Cashley so we'll put the praise on anyone but the guy whose doing it".

Did Chelsea need a scout to find Torres?

I can't name a really good player Newcastle have..... who wasn't a star before joining, just not in the UK for a lot of them.

Who didn't know about Ba, Cabaye, Arfa, Tiote, Cisse, these weren't guys flying under the radar.

Scouts are the guys who pick up a star buy from some 2nd division player in Guatamala, or kids just about anywhere.

Cabaye, Ba, Tiote, Cisse, Arfa, were very very good players and the only thing exceptional about their deals was, other clubs were too stupid not to go for them, Newcastle persuaded them to join, and Newcastle picked in just about every case the god damned perfect time to do their business.

Every year hundreds of fantastic players, maybe not the worlds best, go to new clubs for practically nothing, Newcastle are doing exceptionally well in their transfer dealings, mostly exactly because they aren't buying unknowns.

Basically the current top 4 should all hang their heads in shame, there isn't a team in the top four who wouldn't be improved with Cabaye, Tiote, Ba, Cisse, Arfa and Guti, they aren't better than every other player in the top 4 but not far off at all. Next to nothing, lowish wages, great players, if Arsenal bought that lot instead of Gervinho, Arteta, Chamakh, Mertesacker and Santos I wouldn't have a leg to stand on complaining about Arsenal. :(

I would disagree and say that whilst the job of a scout is to discover that unknown gem these days thats never going to happen with how well covered every league is. The job of the scout is to find those players and establish if these players are good enough for your league and if they will fir in your club structure and playstyle. The Newcastle scouts ahve done this task admirably.

Bit premature isn't it to use the phrase "without a doubt" for a player who's yet to hit double figures in his entire Premiership career?
Not suggesting he couldn't prove that over time but he's only scored against one team in the top half so I'd rather reserve judgement until he has a full season under his belt.

That's what people were saying about Newcastle "we haven't played anyone yet and our bubble would burst soon" and we have seen how that has ended
