Anything in the air and de Gea is flapping at it or doing a weak punch instead of catching :/

I think that match highlighted his shortcomings pretty well, he's a great shot stopper but a complete liability with crosses.

It's probably why Ferguson won't commit to him being number one.

Went back to Anfield today after an 18 month break. Have sold on my season ticket for the last two years but got a spare for today.

I will be going back again next year as some of the football on display was very encouraging. However, to play five in the midfield and one up front at home to Stoke was a poor shout by the manager.

The system doesn't suit Gerrard. It just wasn't his day at all today. Especially when I left him for dead at the traffic lights in his Overfinch too ;)

This season's league has to be written off and hope for a cup run.

Dunno what game Gary Neville was watching because I thought we were pretty crap (again), Newcastle could have quite conceivably got it back to 2-2 had they been given the penalty for Evra's shirt pull and the linesman called the ball over the line....

Thankful for the 3 points but even more thankful for the International break

I didn't hear the post match but if we had had some luck with the decisions second half we could have been in it, bit gutting but after the first 15mins we deserved nothing.

That dive is horrific

Then Suarez has the gall to wonder why he doesn't get any calls, everyone expects him to dive all the time. Wish he would just bugger off to Spain.

I'l take a 4 point lead at this stage gladly but just looking at who's played who and what's coming up I don't think anything's significant until the end of November at the earliest.
If we're still top then it'll be worth getting excited about :)

It never ceases to amaze me how defenders manage to control themselves when someone does something like that under their noses, I'd want to nut him.

The flip side to that is when defenders foul an attacker and then turn around and accuse them of diving.

I think attacking wise Chelsea are looking amazing, it's only defensively that they are lacking this season. I don't think that Terry can really handle a whole season, and Luiz is at attacking than he is at defending. Has Cahill even played much yet or has he been injured or something?

Search "Pepe stamp" on YouTube and see the time Pepe lost his tag when someone dived against him :D great watch :D

Chelsea have the best defence in the PL at the moment, however we haven't played the best teams yet.
Luiz has been very good actually, he's (gradually) cutting out his rashness.
Cahill has had a couple of games and again he's been very good, Terry will be getting an enforced rest soon enough and Cahill will be ready to fill in when he does.

Irrespective of who the player is or who he plays for that sort of thing needs to be dealt with somehow.

How do you deal with it though? You get the odd one that's clear cut and the vast majority of people will agree it was a dive but 99% of incidents aren't clear cut.

We see on this forum every week people debating whether a player has been fouled, whether they slipped, whether they were trying to avoid a challenge, whether they hung a leg out intentionally and so on. Diving/cheating has become a skill and most of the time it's nigh on impossible to know what is and isn't a dive - with enough certainty to ban them anyway.

It's not something new either. Shearer, Makelele, Hamann and many others over the years would constantly win free-kicks by stepping/backing into an opponent and falling to the ground.

You have a panel of 3 ex players, not involving Drogba, Klinsman or the likes and they just assess any incidents referred to them.
The clear, obvious ones, like the 2 recently posted, are never going to attract any controversy anyway so at least they'll get dealt with.

Unless you have the same 3 men sticking to very strict guidelines judging every incident, you're going to end up with a lot of complaints.

And are you going to just pick out the incidents highlighted on tv and/or in the penalty area or are you going to look at every time a CB is trying to let the ball run out of play but then tumbles to the ground when an attacker goes to close him down too?

edit: And will we ban defenders for accusing strikers of diving when they have fouled them? It's effectively the same thing - trying to deceive the ref into giving a decision in your favour.

No guidelines, just their opinion.
People like G. Neville tell it how it is so he could do it.
Any incident reported by either club playing, nothing to do with media.

Ok, well if it's just going to be their opinion then it has to be the same people judging every single incident or else you're going to have massive inconsistencies.

I'm not sure you can leave it up to the clubs to report incidents though. Imagine if a player from your club gets a ban but another player from another club gets let off because the club he was facing didn't bother reporting it for whatever reason.
