Sturridge vs vidic

http://media.balls.ie/uploads/2014/03/SlightAjarAnhinga.gif

vidic makes no contact and was sent off

hows that any different to remy and butland?

everyone condemned Sturridge for diving and said it wasn't a penalty

As I mentioned at the time, by the letter of the law that was a pen too.

The difference between that incident and the Remy one, and why public opinion is different was because Sturridge just took the opportunity to go over straight away rather than allowing the challenge to impede him and trying to stay up. And looking at the Remy incident, it's easy to understand why. But again, one of the ex-refs after the game said that was a pen anyway.

only

when the ball is not within playing distance of either player.

ball was in playing distance of butland :o

It wasn't within playing distance. If you go pause it, you'll see Remy has dinked it past Butland before he's within playing distance. Butland is as late as a slow lloris...

Graham Poll on the Sturridge/Vidic challenge - the same applies to Remy/Butland:

The third Liverpool penalty and the least clear as Vidic slides across the path of Daniel Sturridge but misses the ball. He does not actually trip the striker but still impedes his progress and the penalty is correct.

It's a myth that you need to make contact for it to be a foul. In the same way that if you get a touch on the ball it's not automatically not a foul either.

was the ball within playing distance of remy???

He's in control of it...he has possession of the ball..and yes its a controlled movement with a controlled touch which gives the advantage of being within playing distance.

Thought he was 26?

Anyway is the Liverpool game on any channel today? Knew Sky would have the north London derby but thought BT sport might of had the pool game.

he's just turned 26 yea, not 25. Still nowt in terms of age. We need a win today, get back to winning ways after getting battered by Bayern.

Bet City can't wait to get Aguero back, bad enough having one of, if not the best striker in the league out, but having Bony as backup is never going to be good.

His touch is like he's wearing wellingtons.

Villa doing alright, riding their luck a little bit but definitely something to play for in the 2nd half.

Confirmed #LFC starting XI to face @CPFC: Mignolet, Clyne, Sakho, Skrtel, Moreno, Lucas, Can, Lallana, Ibe, Coutinho, Benteke.

Confirmed #LFC substitutes to face @CPFC: Bogdan, Lovren, Firmino, Allen, Origi, Brannagan, Teixeira

Putting Delph on was stupid. The crowd was a bit flat before then, now they're fired up and so are Villa.
