Greenlizard0 Weekend Football Thread ** spoilers ** [6th - 8th November 2015]

Palace are fast becoming our new Villa. Their directness, pace and power really exposes all our weaknesses in defence and with a CM pairing of Can & Lucas they were even more exposed. We massively missed the energy of a Henderson or more recently Milner in midfield today - every time Palace knocked the ball forward their midfield just ran straight off the back of ours and were first to the loose balls.

First half we were quite fortunate to come in level because Palace dominated and our defending at times was shambolic - Moreno & Can for their first and then Sakho almost gifting them a 2nd shortly before coming off. Second half we started to take control of the game but Palace still threatened on the break and a 2nd for them was always a distinct possibility.

It's frustrating watching the likes of Moreno and to a lesser extent Can because they've got so much potential but their decision making is stopping them becoming excellent players. If Moreno can't cut out the stupid mistakes from his game soon then we're going to have to start looking for another LB, again.

Henderson will walk back in to the team once he's fit, probably for Can and Firmino will be starting in place of Ibe before too long. They should help us in attack but one of Lallana or Coutinho (hopefully Lallana) will have to be sacrificed for a second striker to keep the balance.

Edit: Origi looks like the kind of player Souness would've bought for Southampton having heard about him from his dad.

I like Can but he keeps making mistakes, off the top of my head that's twice quite recently he made a mistake that lead to a goal.

I'm not convinced by a lot of Liverpool's team and didn't think Klopp will have a dramatic impact this year. I do think he can improve them a lot over time, better coaching, better system but the biggest change will be a top manager who can spot and bring in talent.

It will be interesting to see who he goes for as well, the massive majority of his buying for Dortmund was downright amazing. He did favour buying younger players like old Wenger who were just on the brink of their first brilliant season but aren't quite there yet. I suspect he'll buy 1-2 more experienced players, get shot of a few and bring in a few of the 'next' top players.

I do think his Liverpool project will be more Poch at Spurs than Poch at Southampton, an overall very large squad change and complete tactical/style shift over 2-3 seasons as opposed to having the right players and just needing to adjust tactics a little.

liverpool have plenty of talent it just doesnt work when you put them together, square pegs and all that

That's fine, I don't believe so, not truly top players. Clyne may be good enough at full back long term, don't think Mignolet is good enough, nor Skrtel/Lovren, Sahko maybe. Midfield, Can shows potential, Firmino given time to play, was good in the German league.

Honestly Sturridge is the only player in the entire squad I truly rate, the only player I'd take at Arsenal or who I consider could be great at a top 2-3 team in any league.

and the year they finished second only suarez and studge would have made your team, but then its not like your lot have been upto much in the last 10 years is it?

sevilla just put madrid through the ****in wall, city looked awesome sauce against them and couldnt put villa away today.

liverpool could in theory have bought neymar, messi and kept suarez for 300 million and padded their team out with kids, they would have still lost more then this liverpool team but you would take all 3 at arsenal.

so that argument of none of your players would get into our team is silly.

As a Palace fan I want to say that Liverpool played really well today. There is a world of difference between 8th and 10th in the Premier League - but Liverpool really stepped it up today. I think the game was far more competitive than we expected and Liverpool did well to keep us to two goals. They have really progressed since the last couple of times we have played them.

Honestly I couldn't tell you what your point was, anywhere within it. Aside from the fact you couldn't in theory have brought Neymar or Messi because neither player would have chosen to join, you didn't do this. I could also say Arsenal could have Ibra, Messi, Suarez, Neymar, Hummels, Kagawa, and 30 other players so I don't want any players from any other teams..... but you know, we didn't and I do.

What has who you could have bought got to do with reality? The reality is Liverpool don't have a top quality squad, they have really one genuine top player, a few potentials and a few who really aren't top players.

What has how much success Arsenal have had, what other players could play for Liverpool and how Sevilla/Madrid/City got to do with anything I said at all?

Guess what, I get to rate any player I like and of LIverpool's squad the only one I consider worthy of Arsenal or any other top team is Sturridge(presuming he could get over fitness issues).

you made a comment that most of the liverpool team wouldnt make Arsenals team, i think we could say that only a handful of liverpool players since 2000 would and yet they have finished 2nd 3x and been to two european cup finals

they can still be fused into a team capable of challenging with a few transfers and better coaching (klopp)

so wether you rate them as individuals is not really the problem, as a team they have little end product, after they fix that you lot wont look forward to playing them.

spurs should have beaten you today, how many of their team would make your starting 11?

Again how they've achieved in the past has precisely zero relevance and there have been multiple players who would have made Arsenal's team. I'm talking about this actual team, why you keep bringing up other players I honestly can't fathom, they literally have no bearing on your current team or how good they are nor has this team made it to european finals.

My initial comment was simply that I think while Klopp can improve the current side he can't perform miracles and won't likely cause a big turn around at Liverpool till he's had a chance to bring in a fairly significant number of players.

You replied to this saying how the current team has loads of talent, I disagreed, and now you're saying that with new players they could compete... which is precisely what I was saying. Though I presume I think there need to be more changes than you do.

If there aren't many players that would get in Arsenal's team and Arsenal can't win anything meaningful, why would Liverpool if their players are worse which most are.

AS for Spurs, I'd take Alderweireld as straight up first team over Mert. Dier as the kind of midfielder we lack(or have but are never fit), Alli in a similar vein though more as rotation/for the future. I'd take Eriksen over Walcott, Welbeck, Campbell. Kane for Giroud.... don't know, maybe. He's younger with much less experience and better in many situations. Kane has and can score from outside the box, has taken on players and has more potential. He does a lot of the simple things right that Giroud so frequently gets wrong.
