Greenlizard0 Weekend Football Thread ** spoilers ** [7th - 10th August 2015]

Some of us have said Cech has been in decline ever since his head injury, and actually had a poor end to his Chelsea career ;).

If West Ham can maintain this, or improve upon it, it will be a fantastic opening day result.

Dear god Arsenal, the other thing I find is we have really arrogant players, we win a game and they all start talking up how good they are. But they also have that, we won so well we just have to do the same and we'll win. Thing is we often play because the opposition is being bad or it's a freaking friendly and we just don't realise it, then get cocky and lose a game like this.

WE've been terrible, and I'm getting might bored with just how many games AOC is involved in which even if he is good going forwards(the very rare games he scores) he so often gives away the ball as he just did in a dangerous position. I think in 2 of the three games he scored last year he scored and conceded possession leading directly to a goal the other way.

EVERYONE says he's not the keeper he was pre injury, the question is how good is he now. He was pretty much the best in the world at the time of his injury, he could be lets put a random number on it 10% worse than he was, but still the 2nd best keeper in the world. I wouldn't rate him that highly but he was better at the end of 13/14 than Chesny ever has been.

Another key question is can he regain form after a season of barely playing. I actually expect he will be in rough form early in the season. However he's being unfairly picked out here. If Coquelin wasn't playing like 4 West Ham players on side the first goal wouldn't have counted most likely. Our defence let multiple players ahead of them and I would back his decision to come off the line. Had that come down without him coming out you'd put the West ham player(s) with an extremely high chance of scoring.

LIkewise there, you don't expect an unblocked shot from that distance with the defence doing absolutely nothing. Could he have done better, sure, do even the best keepers in the world currently in their best form let in such goals, absolutely.

Čech was never the best goalkeeper in the world prior to his injury, he was an excellent keeper though, he has been on a steady decline since '06.

Prior to Courtois in the 14/15 season, Čech actually finished the 13/14 season in poor form (made a number of errors). I remember making this point at the time, saying that Courtois was a better keeper, and Chelsea fans disagreed with me at the time.

Čech had a nightmare for the first goal.

Also; in totally unrelated news, Sheffield Wednesday were excellent yesterday .

The new pitch looks amazing, the new screen is fantastic, and there is a really positive feeling around the club at the minute.

Far too soon to say if the manager will be a success, his record indicates he will only be with us for a season anyway :p, but it was a bright start and for the first time in a long time I feel like a top ten finish could be achievable.
