Greenlizard0 Weekend Football Thread ** spoilers ** [7th - 11th February 2015]

That was some pretty poor refereeing in the 2nd half. Yellows for Spurs for nothing challenges, and nothing for Liverpool players for worse. Then some time wasting at the end not added onto injury time.
Another game where Spurs were smothering the opposition.

Bar the three goals they conceeded

And the dive from Sturridge...again.
Must have been too windy for him to stand up out there.

ROFL, should've had another pen.

That game reminded me so much of the 3-2 game vs Spurs a few seasons back - an open end to end game that we managed to pinch despite 2 major decisions going against us. I'm not sure what Dowd's seen to give a foul against Gerrard that led to Spurs 2nd goal (the offside decision was close so you can't criticise the lino too much) but the Dier challenge on Sturridge was a joke - he's gone in 2 footed straight through the back of him, it's as clear a pen as you'll see.

Big plus's for us was Sturridge starting, although he didn't seem 100% confident sprinting and the performances of Can and Ibe. Can really does look like the Rolls Royce that Rodgers described him as and you could never tell Ibe is only just emerging as a PL player. Coutinho looked off the pace though (not sure if he's carrying a knock) and Sakho carried his nervy performance over from the Everton game.

You mean the dive when both of his shins were kicked? Look at any impartial commentary on tonight's game, I'd be shocked if anyone says that pen was even contentious.

How about the Gerrard yellow, for exactly the same tackle Dier did a few minutes later?

Dowd was awful and inconsistent, but it was the same for both teams

He booked Gerrard for a perfectly good challenge, booked Skrtel for a challenge Dier wasn't booked for 5 minutes earlier and didn't give as blatant a pen as you'll see by Dier on Sturridge.

That said the ref was a bit trigger happy and was dishing out bookings at anything borderline.

The Sturridge penalty looked pretty stone wall in every replay other than perhaps the first time you see it from a distance. Even then it looked pretty obvious.

gutted. we didn't do much wrong bar a few sloppy passes but probably should've rotated the back 4 due to tiredness. vert was off balance for the 3rd but dier should be doing better to intercept that cross.
