Greenlizard0 Weekend Football Thread ** spoilers ** [7th - 11th May 2016]

Full team today I reckon. Sub the likes of Sturridge, Coutinho and Firmino in the second half then rest them all over the weekend.

Wouldn't be surprised if Coutinho was left out. While others have been rested in the league games between the EL semi, Coutinho started all 4 games.

I'd start the first 11 minus Coutinho and Moreno.

Was being stated as 3-5 months out injured yesterday. But there is absolutely no issue at all with Arsenal, injuries, treatment, poor training and general problems somewhere causing these injuries.

Danny Welbeck's league games:
2010 – 26
2011 – 23
2012 – 30
2013 – 26
2014 – 32
(Move to Arsenal in 08/2014)
2015 – 9
2016 – 11
2017 – ?

From twitter, the only reason Welbeck's games weren't higher before the move was he wasn't first team at Utd, they got shot of him and he basically was first team since his move to Arsenal yet he's been injured for at least 3/4 of both seasons.

How many injuries, how many 10's of millions in wages will players get that Arsenal fans pump into the club before someone somewhere within Arsenal says "hey, maybe we should actually look into the problem using outside consulting and see if the decade long injury crisis can be solved".

Buying Welbeck was a terrible idea, 16mil made it even worse, 100k or more a week made it worse again, helping out direct rivals Utd by getting a not great player off their wage bill.. horrendous. But after all that the biggest failing is we don't even get to use him because the club is completely inept and dealing with fitness and health.

*a wild accusation appears*

One year with bad injuries is bad luck, more than willing to accept that and I've defended other clubs having such years and Arsenal long ago. But bad luck years are evened out by average years and good luck years with almost no injuries. When 9/10 clubs have 'average' luck for injuries including terrible and brilliant years for injuries but Arsenal have a full decade of only terrible injury seasons it's not luck, it's not fluke, it's something fundamentally wrong.

Looking at Arsenal's major injury list and the regularity of injuries would certainly suggest that there's something fundamentally wrong at Arsenal. Whether it's the training, the recovery, the coaches or the players is another question though but if everyone can see it, why can't arsenal? Is Wenger so stuck in his ways that he won't or hasn't changed things since he arrived? Potentially even going against the advice of Physios and other coaches?

Liverpool Team: Mignolet, Clyne, Toure, Lovren, Moreno, Can, Milner, Lallana, Coutinho, Firmino and Sturridge.

Barring injuries, that'll be our EL final team :)

Would probably prefer Lucas over Toure but he hasn't done much wrong to be dropped even if Lucas has been excellent at CB.

Martinez: "We always react well."

We've not been bad this year really...

I don't think you can say that in all honesty. I think DM makes a very good point, our injuries yr in yr out are laughable. I mean every person and their dog can see that there is something so very wrong at Arsenal with their list of injuries, either we are feeding them something that is making them weaker or we are over training them.

I just don't get it anymore, I mean Welbeck now out for 9 mths so that at least till xmas. The same player who was hardly injured at Utd, no doubt wilshere is the next to go...then we won't see him for about a yr or so.

God knows what our next manager is going to do when Wenger leaves. I just hope whoever it is, manages to get rid of this injury curse that hangs over our club.

You've got to remember that Arsenal play far more matches than really any other club as well. League, Europe, both domestic cups..

Than any other club, lol, because of the stage we usually go out of in europe we usually play less than other top four clubs. WE also have a wage bill that for most of the past decade has been mostly between 70-130% higher than those teams who don't play extra european games.

Likewise that table is meaningless, that states number of injury, it doesn't take into account severity of injury.

Cazorla, Welbeck, Coquelin, Ox(twice) have sustained knee ligament trouble this season alone, all missing(or going to miss) a huge number of games.

That list counts a tight calf or a broken nose that causes you to miss a single game with the same weight as a ACL tear that causes you to miss the full season. No Arsenal have not had an okay season for injuries, they've had another very bad year. We've had 8 players miss over 50 days of the season, 4 that missed over 100, 2 over 210 days and Welbeck will join that list. That list doesn't even include Welbeck's preseason injury that made him miss almost the entirety of this year already. Anyone injured last year isn't included in either that list you posted or those stats I was using.

This is a 'less' bad year for us, and that has multiple players missing 3/4's of a season, many more missing 2-3 months and many of those have had other injuries keeping them out for 1-4 weeks at other points of the season.

A lucky or 'good' season is where you have 20-30 injuries and the majority of those are less than 3 weeks out with only a couple of players missing a substantial portion of the season.
