Greenlizard0 Weekend Football Thread ** spoilers ** [7th - 9th November 2014]

gg, beaten by a better set of players

No audible Hillsborough chants for once thankfully

Less if the refs who are from Manchester please, makes no sense

lol, full time whistle saves Mignolet from causing it to be 3-1... Liverpool and their set piece defending and all.

liverpool suck, once again a bit of work rate and closing in midfield for the first 25-30mins, then the midfield was worthless. I think in part it was a tactic last year which fails this year because two of their best/fastest counter attackers are out, one injured one sold. But then you also have Gerrard getting slower, older and less good by the season so a huge work rate in the early minutes is going to hurt Gerrard more than most players.

It's a poor tactic, silly thing is one of the first times they tried to sit back and be more compact was against Real then bring on those counter attacking players later in the game instead, it worked better and considering this early effort then crap last 60 minutes has failed in the majority of games for Liverpool against bigger sides it seemed strange to basically get straight back to that tactic.

For how great Costa's shots are, some of his crosses were absolute carp in the 1st half lol

Better team won, but Chelsea should have killed it off more easily

Man Utd: De Gea, Valencia, McNair, Blind, Shaw, Fellaini, Carrick, Januzaj, Rooney, Di Maria, van Persie

subs: Lindegaard, Vermijl, Blackett, Fletcher, Herrera, Mata, Wilson

--

Palace: Speroni, Mariappa, Delaney, Dann, Ward, Puncheon, Ledley, McArthur, Bolasie, Chamakh, Campbell

subs: Hennessey, Kelly, Fryers, McCarthy, Bannan, Doyle, Gayle

.

wtf - Herrera not starting again, that's just shockingly bad choice

How long before loldgers is out?

He'll be under severe pressure this year, but Liverpool are currently doing a bit of a Newcastle, not the same injury crisis but, smaller squad, relatively recently put together doing way better one year with no other competitions to distract and everyone in good form. Next year you have Europe, a key injury(Newcastle had many more though), but the players are more tired, without the key player they aren't scoring goals, everyone loses some form, the team just can't put together any form.

Added travel and games for a relatively small squad with key players not there and a side will be almost completely different.

I think a lot of Liverpool fans insisted the lack of europe made little difference next year and it wouldn't hurt them much this year, they were wrong.

Again there is a situation where in particular Liverpool's "ultra tempo start" tactic is again hurt even more by extra games and more tired players.
