Greenlizard0 Weekend Football Thread ** spoilers ** [7th - 9th November 2014]

wtf - Herrera not starting again, that's just shockingly bad choice

Remember that RVP could play but really shouldn't have and you ended up losing him for several extra months. Being on the bench in a squad that is severely injury hit is one thing, starting him and risking him longer term is another. I suspect he's basically an emergency option who they want to protect as long as possible till he's actually ready to start games.

He might not be on the bench at all if other players were fit. being on the bench, or even starting doesn't automatically mean they are completely fit or injury free.

Moyes has shown you(as have many other managers.... or one manager many many times.... Wenger) rushing a player back is rarely a good idea long term.

He'll be under severe pressure this year, but Liverpool are currently doing a bit of a Newcastle, not the same injury crisis but, smaller squad, relatively recently put together doing way better one year with no other competitions to distract and everyone in good form. Next year you have Europe, a key injury(Newcastle had many more though), but the players are more tired, without the key player they aren't scoring goals, everyone loses some form, the team just can't put together any form.

Added travel and games for a relatively small squad with key players not there and a side will be almost completely different.

I think a lot of Liverpool fans insisted the lack of europe made little difference next year and it wouldn't hurt them much this year, they were wrong.

Again there is a situation where in particular Liverpool's "ultra tempo start" tactic is again hurt even more by extra games and more tired players.

European football has nothing to do with the current form,we were doing this bad before we even kicked a ball in Europe

maybe still a bit knackered from his broken rib?

He has been on the bench for the last two or three games so Im not sure why really.

He would be (much) better choice to start than Fellaini

.

If this was his first match back then this would seam reasonable, but Herrera has actually had two or three full weeks of training since being back on the bench after that injury so it just seems a little much.

Liverpools problem is they have no strikers to score goals. Europe makes very little difference so early into the season. Their defence was rubbish last season and the goals got them through. It's the same this year only they don't have the goals so they can't win a game.

I think Rogers is losing the plot, honestly can't figure him out anymore. I want him to sort this out so much, I'm sick of changing managers, but he's just so ******* stubborn :( The team today also confirmed that he threw in the towel at RM (if anyone had any doubt.)

We were **** before we stepped foot in a European game.

Yes, you also lost players, Suarez, Sturridge, changes happen and teams change. Maybe without Europe the team would be less tired and they'd have had a couple games where the extra energy, again in particular with Rodgers fast 25 mins, would have gotten them a lead and led to a result, which builds confidence. When you have a change of team and then have extra games tiring players as they are trying to build some form again it becomes much more difficult to get form, confidence and to gel new players into the team.

It's all small pieces that add up to why a team does worse. I don't at all think that Europe or key injuries are the only reason. With Sturridge/Suarez out and Gerrard older and worse that early game tempo being Rodgers main tactic doesn't work, he hasn't adjusted at all. He hasn't dropped Gerrard or brought in a good enough replacement for him either. He hasn't fixed the defence.

But Gerrard for me wasn't good enough last year, the defence was dire last year, the tactics were simple and easy to predict last year. None of that really changed, but you have the two right players for the tactic upfront, you have form and more energy than the teams around you because you're playing less games it all gels together where in one situation it works great and another it doesn't work at all.

Well rodgers should be given till the end of the season and then the club has to make a decision. The transfers this year have been meh. Moreno being the only real gem we got out of the lot.

If only Rodgers knew more than one simple tactic

Moreno/Manquillo/Can/Lallana all looked fine to me

Victim of his own success last year? Normally when a manager finds something works they are very reluctant to change it even when all the fans can see what is wrong.

Chelsea's John Terry, speaking to BT Sport: "They probably had the better of the first half but the second half we were in control and never looked like losing, which is the difficulty at Anfield.

What game was he playing in? We got absolutely dumped on after our goal when the team sat back and started just passing the ball to Chelsea

Lovern is awful. Can't believe Rodgers fell into that transfer especially blowing £20m on him. Lambert should never have been purchased. Markovic has great potential and I saw him play numerous times last year and thought he will do well but Rodgers seems to think he is too good to play in the league.

To be fair Lambert was so cheap , would be silly not to buy him (as a fourth option up front)

Manqillo has not been convincing has displayed Enrique's level of decision making at times. But then again do not think many players can shine with the way are playing atm.
