Not for 3 years at least, IMO.
This is our 11th different centre back pairing in 12 games. Says it all really. 
Get another creative player in there somewhere and keep a consistent (and hopefully better quality) defence and things would improve a lot.
Poor first half though, big improvement needed.

I would get Herrera and Mata on (for Fellaini and RvP/Januzaj) straight away

Well that was a boring first half, and not just in the United game by the sounds of it. I've been disappointed with Januzaj in particular, you'd think he'd be playing a bit better having been given his big chance in the first team recently. He's not the only one playing badly by any means though, and I think LvG's tactics were wrong in that first half too. Everything is just a little bit too slow, it's allowing Palace to organise behind the ball and hit United on the break.
It's hardly a massive statement to say that. It was a tight game with few clear chances that they edged. We could and should have had a penalty for handball towards the end and Ramires & Oscar both could have easily been sent off.
We only deserved something due to Matic handling it along with Cahill. I can see it from that point of view, but as a manager that isn't what you should be complaining about and focussing on, we got outplayed in every part of the game. Better defence, better midfield, better attack and a better manager sadly. We could've and should've still got a result as they couldn't score put it would only serve as a short high on another day we get pasted
edit: oh yeah ramires should've been off, someone really needs to do that thug in
That'd be all well and good had we not been turd for 2-3 months and you can blame it on those close decisions as a manager, unfortunately we are ****ing ****.
Or it could be looked at that Liverpool used up all their luck in Can's goal 8 minutes in. Without Cahill's ricochet you may well have not scored at all
A deflection is not the same as someone outside of the 22 players on the field directly influencing the game, don't be dim

Shaw has been pretty decent as has McNair.
No, suggesting a deflection is on par with not having two handballs given which directly changed the outcome of the game is dim, its simply just true.
I mean you ignored the rest of my post and focussed on the fact that I said I can see where he would be coming from but that the performance was a shambles and we could've been smashed but to suggest two handballs not given is just your luck used up because of a deflected goal. Well actually I didn't expect much different from yourself, you thought the ref did you when we beat you 3-0 last season
