Greenlizard0 Weekend Football Thread ** spoilers ** [7th - 9th November 2014]

City have so many weaknesses in the team, Nasri/Silva are just not wide players leaving only Navas, who is more Lennon/SWP than he was ever Robben/Ribery. His shooting is meh, he's wasteful, his crossing is meh. Fantastic pace but poor decision making/final ball and physically too small. When he's your only genuine wide player you have a problem with the squad. They should really be using fullbacks, seeing as they have good attacking ones, in wide positions with the squad how it is.

Silva is good but in bigger games he is pushed off the ball too easily.

Yaya is far far too inconsistent, even his very best games are usually 20-30 mins very good but will be useless for half the game.

Mangala was such a poor buy, they need a Hazard/Robben/Ronaldo level wide player, something entirely lacking in this team. Likewise Chelsea have Matic/Fabregas/Oscar where even the most defensive player is good pushing forwards, a smart passer. Outside of Yaya their central midfield offers too little going forward for a team that can't play well out wide.

It actually annoyed me, if I took my kid I'd be watching where the ball was coming from and protect her! They made no effort! I can't imagine how much that would have hurt from a kids perspective..

Yeh I agree but with the speed that ball was going its forgivable you might have reacted late.

Toure isn't a natural CM though, City's biggest weakness is playing only 1 CM to cover for Toure, i think he should be the furthest forward of a trio in midfield and he would be a different player.

It's like playing with 1 CM having Toure on the pitch in a 4-4-2 at times.

He was pretty much playing that role last season.

Pretty much, my point was more they spent more on him than they should and with Nasri/Silva as their "wide" attackers they should have been looking for that first team wide guy rather than spending on another really not top class wide player.

Nasri isn't good enough out wide full stop and Silva isn't really a wide player at all though often somewhat plays there for City in a 4-3-3(more under Mancini), though he's often played wide for Spain.

They keep buying players who I just wouldn't consider first team for a team wanting to win the CL, and they aren't picking them up stupid cheap. Nothing wrong with added depth to squad, but either make it cheap or get the actual first team quality you need first. Sagna.... not a clue why they bought in an old and not good fullback on a large wage, makes no sense at all.
