Greenlizard0 Weekend Football Thread ** spoilers ** [8th - 12th September 2017]

I disagree. That's a red, he clearly catches him in the face with his studs. How's that any different to De Jong's studs to the chest in the WC final that everyone agreed was a red?

Mane doesn't have to go for that ball, as a footballer you have to accept that there are some situations where you can't win the ball and I think that's one of them.

This is precisely why referees should have post match interviews too, so they can be asked for their explanation first hand for their major decisions.

I suppose he's sent him off due to the rules about feet being at head height.

Mane is going at speed and flies at his head with his foot very high, obviously it's not deliberate but would it fall under dangerous play? I've seen stuff like this before.

Those situations are completely different, any attacking player in that situation goes for the ball, it's a 1 on 1 with the keeper and usually results in a goal, his eyes are completely on the ball.

I think it's a red. The speed he's going at with a foot raised at head height with an obvious potential collision, I think warrants a red. Shame as it was a good game. Hope it's not too bad for Ederson.

I thought it was a red too, if he wanted to challenge for the ball use your head given that was the height of the ball. Studded him in the face, intentional or not, is a red for me.

It's still not okay to stud someone in the face, regardless of their position on the pitch. If Mane had jumped with his head there and they'd clashed heads then neither would have been in trouble with ref.

lol, the people saying not a red. That is as dangerous a thing as you can do in football. Lift your foot, stick your leg out straight and catch someone in the head... sure not a red because he was going for the ball. Looking at the ball only makes you a reckless idiot, there is no reason not to take a quick look both for the protection of yourself and other players. If he ran into the keeper and got himself knocked out or severely injured because he ran late into a keeper that's still his fault for not looking and not paying attention to what is going on around him.

Absolutely crazy, crazy anyone thinks that isn't a red.

Its a difficult one to call, as proven by the fact that Neville, Tyler and Henry all didnt think it was a red, so maybe its not as clear cut as we think, in either way.

I don't know any situation like that where an attacker would head it, ball is travelling too fast and forward, head on head would be way worse for both parties.

People that need an explanation for that red have their own issues I think. It was a clear as day reckless and dangerous tackle. He's caught another player with his studs at head height at full speed, it's as dangerous as it gets in football. A leg break may hurt more, but won't kill you, a kick in the head can kill you, there is literally no excuse for a tackle like that, none.
