Worrying thing for Utd today was that I don't think City played particularly well today. Had Mourinho been a bit more willing to gamble I think City were there to be beaten. They've got Spurs(?) next week and if City perform as they did today or in the previous few games, they're the sort of team that are more likely to cause an upset than Utd are/were.

I agree. City's weakness is their defence, you can score against them quite easily really, but we didn't attack well or defend well, it was a real mess. The other issue is we have no player capable of passing the ball, Matic is the closest thing and he's very limited compared to an actual playmaker. Rashford is a striker playing as a winger, Lingard is a winger playing as an attacking midfielder, Lukaku needs much better service, and Martial is a forward playing wide and is hardly much of a passer.

Herrera is some sort of poor ball winning midfielder who is just... meh.

Wasn't he voted player of the season last season? I don't think he's crap, he just hasn't had much game time.

Why didn't Jose take a punt on Ibra?

He was a more creative player when he first joined, but he's just something else now. He just fills in as an average central midfielder.

Wow just catching up on all the replies and it seems like it kicked off in here lol:p

Did Utd lose?? I’ll be honest I haven’t bothered paying any attention to any football other than hearing about Arsenal dropping points. And not forgotting Liverpool drawing with Everton today and Klopps epic mini meltdown in the post match interview lol.

Mourinho is just deflecting from Lukaku's poor performance, he always does this.

I have concerns about Lukaku. I know the service to him isn't great but he's struggling badly. He has to finally step it up and perform all of the time, not just now and again.

What makes him so unique is his power and speed, not many big strong players can run as fast as him, but he's just... poor.

Arsenal won the possession trophy. Shame that's not an actual trophy.

What the hell you going on about now Shami??

Is there some sort of trophy for having the most possession in a game??
Pretty much everyone and their dog know that Arsenal do have a lot of possession it we don’t do much with it:p.

I'm disappointed that United lost in the way they did. I fully expected City to have more possession and to dominate in some of the other stats, I didn't expect to lose due to two goals from set pieces and mistakes on those set pieces. City didn't actually create that many chances until United went chasing the game in the last ten minutes.

Also, poor from both Mourinho and Klopp to deflect rather than holding their hands up and admitting what really cost their teams. Mourinho trying to suggest that Herrera dive was a penalty is ridiculous, we clearly lost because Lukaku has made two mistakes on set pieces. Klopp should have just admitted that he made too many team changes and that although it was a soft penalty, it was probably still a penalty. To laugh at the interviewer and tell him he knows nothing about football is rude and disrespctful.

Read the rest of the thread Yas. Stop reading the last comment in a conversation and jumping to the wrong conclusion.

Klopp wears his heart on his sleeve and always says what he's thinking - you only had to watch that LiveLiverpool thing Sky done the other day to see that. You could tell he was furious after the game and even at his best he always gets infuriated by stupid questions. This idea that Liverpool didn't win today because they made too many changes is nonsense - we didn't play especially well but still should have won comfortably.

As for the penalty. Watch the replay of Salah's goal - when the ball gets played into him the Everton defender has his arms all over his back, Salah then arms him off, turns into the box and another Everton defender again has his arms all over his back. Why wasn't a foul given for any of those moments? You can watch any game of football and you'll see 50+ incidents where a defender puts his arms onto the attackers back as Lovren did today - everytime a ball gets played into a forward you'll see a defender get close to him and have his arms out like that. He didn't push Calvert Lewin or barge him, he's stepped in front of Lovren, there's natural contact of two players coming together and he's dived.

It's funny reading all this stuff about him that I said and took stick for three or more years ago. He has one way of playing, he can't hold the ball up and has a woeful first touch. He's very strong and against the teams he can exploit that, he will score 3. Any team with pace and strength to counter that, usually the top clubs he goes missing. As I said time and time again he's not genuine top 4 quality but he will do a good job scoring braces and hat tricks against Hull. How the markets gone I don't think you got ripped off at 75m but you need a genuine top class forward to get back to where you used to be and he's not it.

Manchester City 100% dominated the game and if they weren't so tired, they would clearly win with a more massive difference in the score line.
If this game had been 2 months ago, United would have been dead in the first 20-30 minutes.

There was also a penalty which the referee saved for United.

I disagree, it's a pen, Lovren does push him. Sure, Calvert-Lewin has gone down quite easily, but Lovren has still pushed him in the back. There's a significant difference between two players running shoulder to shoulder and tussling for the ball and a player getting ahead of another and being pushed over. Anyone who has played football before and is a quick player can tell you that it doesnt take much to knock you over when you're flat-out sprinting, and a little hand in the back in that situation has clearly overbalanced Calvert-Lewin.

Also, as much as I agree that incidents with player's hands and arms on another happen all the time in a football match, the vast majority of those happen in a crowded box on set pieces. Ideally we'd have officials enforce every bit of shirt pulling, etc, but that's not the reality.

I'm not suggesting that City didn't dominate the ball, but removing the final ten minutes when we were chasing the game City really didn't create as much as you'd expect from a team of their quality. I remember De Gea having to get down low to push away a De Bruyne shot, other than that every save he made was routine and easy. Lukaku has cost us thanks to some comically poor defending of set pieces.

There was another save just before the first goal, when Sane fired a torpedo.

Do you think it was 2x a pen on Salah and also a foul by Salah in the build up to our goal then too? Watch any game of football and you'll see 20+ incidents with more contact than Lovren on Calvert Lewin today - literally every single time a ball is played forward you'll see CB's make more contact with strikers than that. Lovren cannot disappear - Calvert Lewin steps across his path and put yourself in a situation where somebody steps in front of you, it's human nature to put your arm up like that. It's 100% a dive.

Lovrens an idiot but if you give that penalty then you need to give a few away every single game. Hes gone down like hes been shot and needs to see a few ganes suspended.
