Greenlizard0 Weekend Football Thread ** spoilers ** [8th - 13th March 2019]

I remember those times when it was Arsenal and Manchester United fighting it out for the league, and United "randomly" had Tottenham for the last game. But back then spurs had nothing to play for. Champions League qualification is too valuable to miss out on.

I remember the mixed emotions I had going into the final day of the 95 season - when Redknapp scored in the last minute I didn't know what to do. Thankfully Utd ****ed it up vs West Ham and it didn't matter.

I genuinely can't get my head around supporters that think that way. You'd possibly see Utd miss out on the top 4 just because you don't want Liverpool to win the league? The fact that Liverpool not winning means your other biggest rival wins the league makes it even more baffling. Either winning the league is terrible for Utd, at least win for yourself.

Like I said Baz it's a difficult question as obviously I'd rather united win so hopefully Liverpool will mess it up

Imagine being desperate to lose a game so that your 2nd biggest rivals win the League. Small club mentality. Hope you draw City in the CL and they knock you out just to rub it in a bit more.

Lesser of two evils.

It's easy to see why. You just can't see it because you're not in out position.

Not true. I've been in situations where we've played Chelsea when you both were going for the title and if Liverpool had anything to play for then I'd never want anything but a Liverpool win, even if they didn't have anything to play for I'm not sure I'd want anything but a Liverpool win even if I felt conflicted about it. As I said, what makes it even more crazy to me is City being the alternative to Liverpool - either way it's **** for Utd, even if it's not quite so **** if City win. Losing to City would be a double punishment - you damage your top 4 hopes and your 2nd biggest rivals win the league or you boost your top 4 hopes and your biggest rivals win the League. I appreciate it's not a great situation but come on!

too many repercussions if any club aren't in the CL the next year - but particularly if Chelsea (and maybe City?) aren't able to bring any transfers in this summer, Utd need to make up a significant gap in squad quality

Would absolutely kill me if Liverpool finally do it after 29 seasons , but it would be minor compared to playing Europa again and the affect on transfers / difficulty in playing Thurs/ Sun (and the more awkward travel locations) and I also wouldn't put it past Raiola / Pogba to force a transfer through if Utd fail to get CL also
