Greenlizard0 Weekend Football Thread ** spoilers ** [9 - 17th February 2013]

From what i saw of him, he wasnt too bad..better than Santos although to be fair to Sunderland they should have had a penalty as Monreal crashed into Sessignon while he was in the box.

But all in all he was pretty solid, its his 2nd game playing for Arsenal iirc so hopefully he will get better. Is he better than Gibbs??, hard to say at the moment...give him some time and he could be our first choice LB unless by some miracle Gibbs can stay fit for a whole season:p

Watching the highlights of the game last night, i was pretty impressed by Sagna at CB...perhaps thats his new position, he made some great tackles, clearances and headers. But defensively the person who impressed me the most was Giroud:eek::p...a couple of times he headed the ball away whilst defending corners and set pieces. Seeing as Wenger has a penchant for playing players out of position, i reckon Giroud could fill in as a CB as well:p

Sagna pee'd me off, didn't give me much ammo to have a go at him yesterday. Far far more solid than any performance he's put in for at least 2 years now, it does help that most of the Sunderland team is a bit of a joke and that Fletcher had a fairly rare game in not putting the ball in the net, he had quite a few very good chances and Sunderland not being deep in a relegation fight is almost exclusively down to his scoring with so many of his shots this season.

Monreal, hard to judge, he looks much better on the ball, but haven't seen enough of him to really tell, does he make one truly horrendous screw up every few games, won't know till he's played a bunch of games. Its physically impossible to be worse than Santos, and shouldn't be hard to be better than Gibbs. It wasn't a good game to judge them, we were under huge pressure, conceded LOADS of chances and Sunderland should have scored a couple but for a keeper who deserves a ridiculous amount of credit. Monreal looks promising as a potentially significant improvement at left back, which will effectively increase the effectiveness of our CB's and left wing as well.

Its hard to think our defence was brilliant of the keeper needed to pull off epic save after epic save to get us the 3 points, but we were down to ten and playing a stupid outfield, Diaby, Walcott, Ramsey aren't the guys you want upfield when down to 10 men, under pressure and you need possession up the pitch.

Jenks, well, not a great game, a red, but a red that had been coming for well over half an hour, a CB on the bench, two right backs on the field, Wenger walked into another clear as day about to happen red card without making the change first. Would Jenks have made those tackles and got the cards if he had any form at all and was being rotated into the team.... who knows, we don't know because Wenger dumped him and killed all the form he had months ago.

Anichebe is going to go Purple Aki style on Evans today! (not racist)
