Greenlizard0 Weekend Football Thread ** spoilers ** [9th - 11th May 2015]

Depends who we were playing. But the back 4 would be;

Clyne, Terry, Cahill, Baines.

Will be a bit of a difference for them whatever midfield they have to play behind then :p

Can't honestly think of a good midfield for England

Disgraceful he is getting booked for that

That's the problem, our midfield feels like it's a case of 'Pick 4 players out of 10' and it'd be much of a muchness. No real stand outs.

Still, could be worse, Mikel could be English.

That's a real good ball from Henderson ... Lambert being a bit of a plodder can't get there.

What did Fabgregas do when he got booked? Couple of comments on the BBC feed saying he's lucky to be on the pitch? I was 7/8 minutes late watching.

Went in on Sterling just above the ankle, only saw one replay but I felt a red wouldn't have been harsh.

Not like it'd make a difference to be honest

We have worryingly few decent centre halves coming through. Terry isn't even that old, still our best centre half. When you consider he plays week in, week out with arguably our second best centre half, would be a no brainer to have them two as our central defence.

At 34 there should be better quality to replce him but there isn't.

Taking off my West Ham glasses, I thought Tomkins would push on but he hasn't. Seems to be distracted off-field by many accounts and I think playing so poor for Team GB at the Olympics made him wake up.

Phil Jones hasn't kicked on, maybe due to injuries, Smalling only gets mentioned as he plays for Manchester United. Jagielka would even have been near an England squad in any other era.

A red would have been harsh. He wasn't over the top, he was beaten to the ball by a split second.

Reds should be saved for the proper dangerous ones, with the player having proper intent.

From what he is handing us out yellows for he could've sent him off easily

Whats this about a second yellow, what did he do?

In that context yes, but the yellows he has been dishing out, for Lambert and Lallana especially is a #### take.

At the end of the day I really don't care he was sent off, this game is meaningless but I feel a red would've been right.

Not the best method of judgement but seems to be the majority opinion on reddit

Jones moved from Blackburn two, or three seasons too early for me. Being played all over the place, and not every week has really stunted his development. As you say, injuries haven't helped.

He would've benefited from playing another couple of seasons, week in, week out at centre half. Unfortunately when big money and a much bigger club comes in that's the end of that. Can end up hurting the national team, he's not the first example and he certainly won't be the last.
