Greenlizard0 Weekend (mid-week) Football Thread ** spoilers ** [29 - 30th January 2013]

yes. atleast mcleish new darren bent could score and is a senior presence.

Well, finances are a mess there, I don't think Lambert would have preferred to bring Champ/League 1 players in and play youngsters but was forced into the predicament. They have no money and wages are sky high.

Bent doesn't want to be there, you can tell from his body language and there is a perfectly good replacement in Benteke so up front isn't an issue.

Lambert's record at Norwich shows he isn't clueless, he is making the best of an awful situation at Villa.

I see the usual not United fans are claiming the title is done again, just like people who claim they're set to lose before a game, that way if they're right they look 'clever' and if they're not it's even better, win-win.

Oh go on, admit it, the title is yours. Win-win.

:D

Cheers, Timmy

Just finished watching the Villa Newcastle game, I thought Villa were unlucky to not get a point after the second half they gave.

I dont see Liverpool being able to do anything away to City unfortunately

Whys that?

We shouldve beat them early in the season, we really shouldve at least gone level with you away and they dont have rvp.

Or is this another attempt to pigeon? :p

How is it clever predicting a team who is what, 7 points ahead having played tougher games than their challengers and doesn't have much of a history of bottling a title, obviously it's not done but there's an extremely high chance you win the title.

Im pretty sure people just think united are nailed on to win it and dont want them to like myself, don't think people will have an issue saying it.

4 points ahead actually and it's ages since we had a big lead and blew it. If we managed to do it in in the space of 4/5 games we can do it in 15 as well. We have one of the worst defensive records in the top half, anything can still happen. If you think otherwise then...well I'm afraid I'd be breaking the forum rules to continue that sentence.

Thats why I said its obviously still not done, just cant see a ferguson team losing a league title at this stage. Also game in hand then I presume?

Liverpool will lose at city.
I don't want them to, I want them to go there and raise their game like they would do if they were playing united.

They won't however, and city will win 3-1.

Excellent first half from Newcastle, but shocking second half.

I'm very worried about Pardew, he clearly got his half time team talk all wrong, and did not expect Villa to come out like that. The expression on his face said it all. Then we have his 3 bizzarre subs. Shola is ****, fact. Gouffran was doing an excellent job of holding the ball and not losing it, Gutierrez was doing an excellent job of fouling in dangerous areas and constantly losing the ball, yet we take Gouffran off. Sissoko was easily our best player on the night, and we bring on a CB. None of those subs were like for like. The team got juggled around far too much and caused confusion and players well out of position late in the game.

We got lucky that it was Villa and they are **** poor...

As a neutral, leaning more towards Wigan, I was at the Britannia last night and have to say, Stoke just seem to be missing something.

How did the Britannia become a "fortress" with play like that?

Wigan play a style of football which is the stuff I like. They keep it low and pass. Some may say they are playing a style which is "above" them but I disagree, they were great fun to watch.

Despite going 0-2 down, I think Wigan deserved all 3 points, Stoke however were probably lucky to get a point and Wigan showed great heart in coming back. It looks like they have confidence in their manager and keep on going, no matter what and that is what got them the point. It would have been easy for the players to have gone "rogue" but they stuck to their managers beliefs.

Compared to the likes of Villa, Reading and QPR, with play like that, I see no reason why Wigan should be relegated.

It's only a fortress because most people don't know how to play football against the "stoke style" so they tend to just bully teams off the ball more and more because they can get away with it.

That said its working less and less now teams are starting to target the way they play (a cross between going down a lot more and playing it around them to wind them up more).

More than anything else Stoke have been getting quite a lot of luck over results this year, against us Crouch handled the ball for Jeromes equaliser and because it was such a screamer the ref ignored it :( (plus we gave them Kelvin Davis in goal which is an easy couple of goals).

Nice (and worrying at the same time) that Wigan play decent football though.

I managed to get a ticket and have never seen us lose in person before if it makes you feel any better :p

We did it in the CC last year, hopefully this isn't the third 3-0 defeat we take from them in a row in the league, surely we must show up.

Says the man who consistently writes his own team off year after year sometimes way before Christmas to then have them win the title.
