Greetings From My New Place Of Work

Hey, lots of interesting questions there :) I am on shift atm, so I will post back with answers either later this evening or tomorrow morning when the computer room is a little less crowded. (The picture is straight out of the company portfolio of photographs:))

Send us more of those pics, make sure you answer my questions :p

Whats the pay?
How many hours a day do you work?
How many people are on there?
Whats the safety procedure like in case there is a storm or something?
Do boats/choppers come over regularly, or is it just a 'you're here now, and theres no way of leaving for 2 weeks'?

awesome dude is that with talisman? did you enjoy the helicopter crash training? :D

probably 10 - 12 hr shifts?

enjoy the money though :D :D

is that connected to the shore , so that the oil/gas flows to shore or what?

Right, there are a total of 116 P.O.B (people on board) at any one time
I work on the oil separation section atm, but eventually I will learn gas, and utilities which covers most of the platform.

The orange rectangle to the right is the accomodation block with the helipad on top of it.

There are 4 chopper days a week: Tues, Wed, Thurs, Fri and more if required. If you are ill, or anybody in your immediate family is very ill, you will be flown off a soon is practically possible.

I work 14 shifts: 7, 12 hour nights, then 7, 12 hour days, this includes 2 quick change rounds to get you from one to another. The shifts are 06:30 -18:30, 18:30 - 06:30. You get 3 meals a day and all the fruit, cold snacks and ice -cream you can eat:D

Starting salry is £47,800 per year rising to £52,000 after I have learned the 3 outside job areas.

You most definitely do not get to dive off the "beast";) Death would occur:D

You cannot fish over board. There are lots of fish and quite a few seals around the platform. The fish are mainly coley, and there a quite large shoals of them.

The weather mainly wind, sleet and rain can be quite bad in the winter. If the wind speed goes above a certain level we keep outside routines to an absolute minimum.

I've posted this in my lunch break, so got to go now. Any more questions keep them coming, I'll try to answer some more later. Oh and post more pictures if I can get on the computer with fireftp on it:)

52 grand for 2/5 weeks

not bad :)

2 weeks on 3 weeks off, same routine im assuming throughout the year..

So if you cant dive off it, can you like get onto the frame beneath and jump :D Like in the summer when your bored or hot..

Maaaaan, that would be fun.

How do you go about getting a job on one of those things, what sort of qualifications/experience is required?

depends. from chemist to chef whatever they need on the rig.

Basically the highish wage is because its offshire. Starting salaries are £44kish region.

My bro was on £12k as a lab chemist or smt onshore. He then managed to get with an agency that sent him offshire working for an oil company i think and was on £40k ish minimum. He is on more than that now because he isnt with the agency anymore.

I dont really like to fly and apparently the helicopter rides can be a bit hairy so id never do it.

yea two weeks on three weeks off would be two fifths ;)

How far off the sea is it, can't scale it properly in my head?

130 miles east from Aberdeen, a water depth of 91m, and 21m above sea level.

Here's a picture of me lighting the flare stack (that is the tip of the stack on the far left of the above picture:D) This is excess gas we burn off until we can use it elsewhere on the platform

I was absolutely buzzing after doing that
