Greetings From My New Place Of Work

To me that looks like a great job, mainly the wage & 2 weeks on / 3 weeks off, although I guess it' not so great if you have commitments. Must be a long commute for you from wales though? If my calculations are correct you are earning £27.35 per hour

Is all the meals and everything paid for? Do you get sky?

What is the personal space like? Do you have a decent size area for yourself or a larger communal area?

Looks like a pretty interesting place to work, I look forwards to seeing more photos :)

I have sometimes pondered are there people employed to keep the male crew "entertained" and the same for ships spending a long time away from port.

if you are 2 weeks on 3 off couldn't you get another job on another rig and just have a week off

You're restricted in how many days you can work offshore, certainly no more than 21days continuous and I think it's something like 21 days in a 28day period or something.

Looks a really interesting job...Must admit I am quite Jelous :) Although I think I might find it a bit claustrophobic cooped up inside etc.

At least he will be safe in the event of a zombie outbreak.

unless there is an outbreak of zombies on the rig, in which case he is buggered to be honest.

to light the flare stack you shoot at it?

thought it would be automatic.

Seconded, i also thought it would be automatic. So you actually just shoot at it to light the flare??

Did you not see the shotgun they have 'to light the flare (its really zombie defense!)

On an aside, i like the new multi-quote button, didn't like that lairy white one!

so whats the procedure if someone goes postal with the shotgun?

or is that not covered by the health and safety manual :p

After 2 weeks of solid 12 hour shifs Id want 3 weeks off. Works well though, because the last thing you want is people out there who are tired or not working to their best, so they allow you pleanty of time to recouperate. Also, for 2 weeks confined to a rig in the north sea 3 weeks off is a kind of compensation. A lot of 'constantly away' jobs are like this. I knew a captain (surname Cook, lol) who worked 6 months on a boat, then 6 months off. They have to give you that time to allow you to work solid segments.

And if your asking about what to do, with 12 hours hard work id want to spend atleast 11 and half of the other 12 sleeping!

amazing how skinny the legs are.

Indeed. I just seen a picture of the Petronius rig and the body is massive compared to the skinny legs.

I take it these platforms are not built on/attached to the sea bed as they need to move around? How do they stay afloat?
