Home on Wednesday, and cannot wait:cool:

Err I'd suspect that the hot is a flare/tracer shot not a 52pc ball barings!

Bet that gets toasty on initial ignition!

At least he will be safe in the event of a zombie outbreak.

unless there is an outbreak of zombies on the rig, in which case he is buggered to be honest.

I never normally quote things like this but this post made me laugh, its just the sort of thing that goes through my head.

On topic, as long as theres sky, food, and beer i think you have a brilliant job. 3 weeks off after 2 weeks on would be superb.

its 2 in and 3 off isnt it?

looks awesome. i would jump at the chance to work on the rigs :)

I think they are phosphorous cartridges (will ask if I don't forget).

Sky and food yes. beer is a definite no no.

Yes that's right:)

*waves from 130 miles west of you* :)

So, what is your job role currently, and what did you do before you decided to become an offshore worker? Having done a degree in Mechanical Engineering myself, i've actually decided to move away from engineering and towards a career in IT - not a great move in Aberdeen but I'm much happier doing what I enjoy rather than cashing a fat cheque. Although the fat cheque is indeed very very tempting sometimes. :)

I have a friend that works for PSN and know a few people that used to. I always get confused as to how the company was founded, I just vaguely remember it having to do with Tag Slattery and deciding to leave Halliburton.

Who do you work for yourself?

I am working on production as an operating technician. My initial work is on the oil and gas separation section of the process. I have worked as an process operator both outside and in the control room for 24 years. My last job was as a Team Leader on an Ammonium Nitrate plant.

Pretty nice diggs you got there, looks perfectly liveable for 2 week stints :), is it noisy though at night ?/when your sleep ?
No the cabins are very quiet (or at least mine is:D). I am sleeping better here off nights then when I was working onshore. I am getting 7 hours minimum after a night shift:cool:).

Ever thought about going fishing?
Every day, as it would be soo easy, and they are quite large fish too.

While you are out there, are there any knobs or buttons you can fiddle with to make petrol cheaper? Say, 30p off a litre? Failing that, can you smuggle some oil off so you can make your own to flog on the side?

I used to look after this Rig actually.

I worked in I.T for Talisman so i was always in direct contact with the Telecomms Tech. Chris i think his name might be? god knows, i can't remember.

Anyways, luckily enough www.overclockers.co.uk isn't restricted on any of the pc's :)

(do they have the msn messenger / ActiveX sorted on the Internet Terminals yet?)

One of my colleagues is an ex-Talisman IT Helpdesk guy, Tim Hewitt, did you know him?

man I was thinking about just the same thing , zombie hoards, aliens, evil spirts, POB getting cabin fever and going mental. Glad its just not me with an over active imagination. Now I am thinking do a lot of the guys you work with have beards ?
