It's all very well reducing our individual consumption a bit, but if the world population keeps expanding the way it is, all those people are going to need massive amounts of food production, land for housing, clean water etc even if they don't consume us much individually as we are now.

Cartons morphed into 'tetra packs' and as noted above need very specialist recycling methods to recover any material from them. To recycle them you need to return them to somewhere that will take them. Some council recycling centre sites have them as do some but not all supermarkets, otherwise send them to landfill.
Could you imagine how cross I was to have "non collapsable TetraPaks" taking up a solid square meter in my shed -- to lug them down to the tip -- to be told "the TetraPak trolley is out, put it in general"

Fuming

Why don't we just set a rule - anyone born from this point onwards only deserves rations, and has to fix the environmental disaster too?

Oh wait, boomers already did that :eek::o

1. Build nuclear power plants, wind farms, solar farms, tidal energy farms, geothermal energy farms;
2. Shut down all coal-powered and natural gas-powered plants;
3. Force the automotive industry to start developing electric and hydrogen vehicles only;
4. Force Boeing and Airbus to develop and start selling aircraft on hydrogen;
5. Phase out all internal combustion vehicles off the roads all over the world;
6. Stop the deforestation of the global rainforests;
7. Start tree planting on a large industrial scale - hello Sahara desert, yeah, we are looking at you :D

This is good for a start :D

The Coal plant thing is super annoying & is encapsulated perfectly in the 01:47min interview with BoJo on the BBC news site right now, with the interviewer questioning him about planning approval of a new coal in the UK: https://www.bbc.com/news/uk-59114871
A certain amount of energy is needed to sustain society - this is a fact that can't be debated with. I'm assuming here that most reasonable people would agree that rolling blackouts & restrictions on mobility are a bad thing, but I know that's a dangerous leap when discussing things with environmentalists :D
If we/the world currently needs X amount of coal & gas to provide such energy, & we have the option to source it domestically, we should - why wouldn't you?
Answer as I see it: Because the current climate change agenda is emotionally driven, & this doesn't suit a superficial Greta-approved narrative.
The idea that we can just stop using coal/gas is ridiculous. We will naturally move away from coal anyway, because there are better alternatives! political meddling is screwing it all up, as usual.

As for no 7 - I actually think there's a strong case for the return of western Imperialism.
Africa is utterly wasted at the moment - let's put aside historical differences, ally with France & Spain, invade & annexe half of Morocco & build a massive solar farm to power Western Europe.

If you ask Trump, we are not "Naturally moving away from coal" but the coal is our bright, beautiful and clean future.
Except that the coal reserves will get depleted, but not in the next 200 years.

So, yeah, we have to axe all coal plant immediately..

This COP26 is just Boris trying to show off to the world anyway, his party keep voting against everything that prevents continued destruction of nature in this country and actions speak louder than words.

Yes (ok it was a usual flippant/bluster boris interview) but shows he's just making populist comment as opposed to stating case for the mine -
if we want special steels without reliance on foreign coal supplies we need to do it, but could presumably put in conciliatory carbon extraction at the furnaces ?

We need referendum on this green agenda, and allow the media to have real discussions about climate change, because as it stands, they literately can't offer an alternative view thanks to Labour and Tony Blair.

I don't need to hear any more from the climate goblin.

There's no doubt that the average global sea level has been increasing ever since the world started to warm after the Little Ice Age ended around 1850. But there's no reliable scientific evidence that the rate of rise is accelerating, or that the rise is associated with any human contribution to global warming

If you are going to quote something at least provide a link to the original source so people can verify it.

Nasa certainly disagree with your comment.

Climate change is real, nobody is denying that. However the influence of humans is exaggerated, all this talk of doomsday sounds like a cult.

I don't think it would help us a tiny bit to argue about whether humans or not drive the climate change.
The climate change is against our interests, and we are doing a terrible job with regards to conserving the original natural environments.

We are losing the rainforests, we are polluting the air, the seas and everywhere we go - even the space around the Planet is a trash zone full with satellites excrements.

So why should we ignore the overwhelming majority of scientists and instead choose to listen to ShockyFM? Bring us some evidence.

Scientists can and have been bought, many that disagree have been cancelled, lost their jobs, lively hoods, and been ridiculed. Despite having years of experience, actual qualifications, and some them written many books.... If they don't stick to the narrative, nobody wants to hear from them...

Enjoy your daily climate change propaganda.. I look forward to our incoming dooms day which is impossible to avoid due to countries like China USA, India and Russia. :cry:

Our cities have warmer micro-climates because they need vast amounts of energy. This energy heats the whole atmosphere up. And when you add carbon emissions, you have the perfect conditions for accelerating greenhouse effect.

Apparently Boris Johnson has claimed climate change is entirely man made... Because climate change was never been a thing before the industrial revolution....... :D I guess that's what happens when you take scientific advice from a 18 year old girl.

Climate change is normal but not so fast. Not for 100 years, it takes thousands of years and is very slow.
