Greta Thunberg

She's done more than you or most people or politicians.

She has brought attention and focus.

As easy and amusing as it would be to point out an uneducated middle aged man who lives with his mother is ineffectualy attacking a teenager for being world famous for trying to change a global problem it seems pointless.
:cry::cry:

Her facial expressions are still not marrying the words she's saying. It just seems like one of those low budget SciFi movies where someone is in a pinch, but instead of looking genuinely scared or angry at the situation, it just all feels like pretend playground games because of the poor acting.

She's had her 15mins of fame and now needs to get back to school. She said in previous speeches that her childhood was taken, sounds like she took her own childhood really with all this blah blah stuff.

We as humans don't need a spokesperson for the climate, we need direct to the eyeballs education of the population on the effects of it. One person speaking into a global microphone with what feel like scripted words without any genuine emotion are meaningless and only divide opinions further.

By the year 2100 if not much changes then most of the world's coastal cities will be under water. This is not a prediction by climate scientists, this is a measured thing that will happen if nothing changes and all we can do is put in measures to reduce the affect it has on life. Greenland's ice sheet is melting faster now than ever before but these are also cycles that happen on this planet that also needs to be educated. Coupled with the Moon's eggy orbit and the Sun's 11 year solar cycle, in 2025 we will be at the peak of the next cycle so all these weather changes are going to get worse for a few more years yet.

Our burning of fossil fuels is certainly speeding it all up, but the inevitable seems like it will happen no matter what we do. Nature is always gonna be nature.

She's done nothing but make herself famous. That's completely true. Otherwise you'd be able to list some of her accomplishments, instead of the cop-out "She's done more than you!" line.

The fact that you think she's helping in some way is baffling.

The only thing she's done is cause arguments between people who obsess over her and people who think she's done nothing that's actually helpful.

I'm not exactly attacking her as I said. I'm saying the people who think she's our saviour are off their trolleys. Those are the people who cheer for Greta when they see on the news, and that's the first, last and only time they even think about the planet. "Wow isn't she great. She must be great - she's on TV."

Greta's devotees are about as useful as Greta herself.

The "how dare you" wasn't aimed at us but at all the politicians so I doubt anyone is bothered by that

I think you'll find that is the one thing that has upset the adult males all around the World and you need to learn why she said that at that time.
She'd been invited everywhere (being used) and nobody was doing anything.

@FoxEye
You have summed her up perfectly, I agree with 90% of the stuff you've said.
She is being used by World leaders and she will accomplish nothing except making her fawning followers lap everything up even though she offers nothing.

And for the record, I'm not a Greta lover, I've gone past worrying about the climate but still find it funny that adult males are so upset by her - let it go :)

Now if David Attenborough ordered me to put my rubbish in the correct bins I'd probably listen.

I'm waiting for her "blah blah blah" video to become the next remix / meme.

It will only be a matter of time :-)

Southeast Asia needs $2 trillion of investments to reduce emissions, new report finds
Ecosperity Week 2021: Southeast Asia green economy report (cnbc.com)

  • Southeast Asia needs $2 trillion worth of investments over the next decade to build sustainable infrastructure that can help cut down the region’s greenhouse gas emissions, a new report from Bain & Company, Microsoft and Singapore’s Temasek Holdings has revealed.
  • That includes investments into areas like renewable energy, electric vehicles and waste management.
  • To achieve the $2 trillion investment figure, the region’s public, private and philanthropic sectors have to work together to unlock Southeast Asia’s full potential, the report added.

I think that’s more down to her autism tbh. Most people with that condition struggle to use and read expressions well.

Hmm is she legit on the scale then? I read comments from people saying as such but thought this was all just online rumour!

That is something that should not happen, and the UK is the evil here:

"The Democratic Republic of the Congo is finalizing an ambitious—and risky—new plan for the future management of its rainforest, which, as the second largest on Earth after the Amazon, plays a key role in storing Earth’s carbon.

Among other measures, the new strategy will lift the long-standing moratorium on new industrial logging permits, Environment and Vice Prime Minister Eve Bazaiba tells National Geographic in an exclusive interview.

The shift comes just weeks before the November UN Climate Change Conference (COP26) in Glasgow, Scotland, where the DRC is hoping to find substantial funding for its plans. The government is seeking $1 billion for forest protections from the Central African Forest Initiative (CAFI), a coalition of donors including Norway, France, Germany, and the United Kingdom."
World’s second biggest rainforest will soon reopen to large-scale logging (nationalgeographic.com)

Let's face it, she isn't helping solve anything.

Directly, probably not but regardless of what you think of her, she has brought the attention, good or bad, of climate to a lot of people that arguably wouldn't know (or care) - case in point, this thread on a computer forum.

Problem is, not enough people/governments are taking the whole issue on board or actioning solutions and it's falling on deaf ears so it's resulted in her ending up being a media/PR tool for people/governments to "look" and "feel" good.

She said in previous speeches that her childhood was taken, sounds like she took her own childhood really with all this blah blah stuff.

Whilst she no doubts believes she is doing good, i think this is sad thing about it all is that she's losing her education and childhood which is something she won't (necessarily) get get back.

Jetting Greta to the next climate summit will cost a fraction of that, so guess what will happen :p

The masses are appeased by rolling Greta out to tell us all how disappointed she is. Again, and again, and again. I hope at some point she sees that, as @SexyGreyFox rightly said, she is actually being used by world leaders in their efforts to pretend they care. Which they don't (very much).
