**Grow your own 2012**

For folks buying seeds, I can recommend Real Seeds. We've been buying all ours from there for the last few years with great success.

Here's a photo of our patch from 17th July last year:

From front to back: chard, leeks (onions to the left), rhubarb, lots of different squash, sweetcorn... behind that kale, strawberries, cabbages, carrots, parsnips, beetroot.

I need to do the same, I've found a place in my village. Most of the houses here have 300m or longer gardens so I'm hoping the waiting list wouldn't be too long. Ideally I would rather share a plot with a neighbour.

Now does anyone know anything about super cheap DIY green houses/polly tunnel.
I found polythene sheeting on eBay, would that be fine? And any ideas about cheap/free frame material. Got wood cutting stuff and metal cutting welding stuff. So not afraid of building, just very poor for the next three months.

Very good job.

Today I've mixed in some general purpose fertiliser into the plot in preparation for the coming months.

Sowed 8 tomatoes a few weeks ago. No sign yet from 7 of them... one has been sprouted for at least 4 days now.
 
My tom plants so far, started on 5th March.







And my rhubarb this year coming through.



There are 5 pots with a sungold in each, the ones with multiples in are not right for repotting into single pots yet.

I found curry the easiest, hardiest and most fruiting plant and stupidly easy to pollinate

Then just compost, perlite and vermiculite in roughly a 3:1:1 ratio. Plenty of sunlight and warmth.
But curry seems to be very adaptable, unlike other chillies.

apache chilli plants are rediculously productive. You can get up to a kilo of em off 2 plants. They can grow to about 3ft if you use a big enough pot. This was also in a greenhouse plastic one like but still. They just keep flowering and producing all year long so that for me would be a recommendation of a starter chilli, there about 1in long and a nice flavour and heat.
 
My lime plant. Got it about this time last year, it was knocking on heaven's door. Managed to revive it, it produced one utterly amazing lime in the winter. It is currently shooting and flowering like mad :D

The allotment is comming along nicely, got my first early potatoes in under fleece at the weekend and 80 odd onions (mixture of red and white) got a couple of beds dugover and under weed proof fabric ready for my strawberries to be planted through now if only work would get out of the way and let me get sometime on the plot I would be really set.
 
Rhubarb and blackberry potted up in 40 litre what ever they are.

What's the best sort of support for the blackberry? Is it going to fire shoots of in every which way?
Is a "wigwam" the best and train a shoot up each support?

Also put some runner beans and cauliflower in the germinator. Hat sort of support and size do runner beans need?
