After playing getting halfway through HL2 again, and starting Ep1 and Ep2 so Cinematic Mod works, i can't help but feel a bit angry at valve?

WHERE IS EPISODE 3?!

Eposodic content to speed up release of games, its been 3 years since Ep2, are we going to have to wait 6 years again like the gap between HL1 and HL2?

Just let us know whats going on!!!

More money in the L4D games, Ep3 took a back seat. Looks like Portal 2 and Mac Steam work have filled the rest of the time. I reckon there will be something pretty big announced in the next 12 months. Whether it's Ep3 or HL3 I dont know.

I'm reckoning HL3, with HL2 Ep3 bundled for free. :D

Unless HL3 is coming out by the end of 2011 I will feel completely let down tbh :(

Doubt very much EP3 will happen now. Valve know they need a new graphics engine for Half Life3 & whatever else they want to make after. EP3 would surely have happened by now.

Problem for PC gamers is that Steam made Valve very rich indeed so sitting around coding PC games allday is probably hard to do when you have massive bank balances!!! HL2 took 40 man years to make. Steam, Left4Dead & Portal are probably detracting from any decent Half Life progress...........

Not if you have a genuine passion for video games it isn't, which I like to think valve do. Most decent studios enjoy making games, they don't just do it for money.

Thats what publishers are for and is why I like to support independent studios.

No they're not. They'll have dedicated teams to each of their games which will consist of Directors, designers, programmers so and so forth. They have the money and own large enough buildings by now.

Valve are akin to blizzard in their QA department. Or well before Blizzard turned into money shovelers.

You know episodic gaming failed as an experiment almost immediately and Valve themselves admitted as much but as they hadn't gone under like those that made the Sin Episodes starter then tanked, they were locked into it as a naming scheme in the very least.

But to recap, all valve discovered was that the development time doesn't really change vastly whether you're making 10 levels or 100. They just found no way to release a polished product within a year of the previous release, so completely abandoned trying straight after episode one.

It's been so long I've completely stopped caring about Half Life.

Yah right. :p As soon as it's announced you'll be right in there I bet.

On the other hand, episodic content has worked great for some devs, like Telltale Games. It can work. :)

In the long run, I'd rather wait for Ep3 to be ready and to Valves extraordinarily high standards than wait. While it doesn't seem like it with everything else they've been working on and showing off, I'm sure they still conciser Half-Life they're flagship series, so nothing short of perfection isn't going to be enough for them. :)

I agree with everything you said :)

I have a feeling that with EP3 it probably started with extremely heavy modifications/upgrades to the source engine (like the previous two but more) and in the end they decided to just go all-out in making HL3. Who knows?

It'd be nice if all that time spent on it, was for HL3, as I just don't believe 3 years on an Episode would make much sense. Plus, if you think about it, EP1&2 are probably comparable to the addons of Opposing Force and Blue Shift.;)

Yeah if they come out with like 5 hours of game i'll be sorely dissapointed, is that all they can come up with in 4-5 years?

To be honest, I hope they avoid Episode 3 altogether. Ideally for me, they will make Portal 2 the swansong for the Source engine, and have already begun creating their next engine (be it Source 2 or whatever), and release HL3 on that.
