Grrrrrr @ Valve

You are a deluded child...... :P

Portal was very good, but I wouldnt say it stands up to the epicness that is HL2, the character and story development really sucked me in and im gagging for more :(

Well I love HL2, but I've given up hope with EP3. At least we know Portal2 is coming!

I'd rather they'd skipped EP3 and just carried the story on from a HL3 on a new engine - Its already been so long now they may as well have.

Yeah if they come out with like 5 hours of game i'll be sorely dissapointed, is that all they can come up with in 4-5 years?

For me personally, its not the length of the game that bothers me, its the quality of the experience. I'd rather have a super high quality 5 hours experience than a 20 hour very mediocre one. Of course, both would be perfect :D

EPS3 may happen - either that or some contination of the storyline, it'll just be in valve time. They've got a habit of pulling surprises out when we least expect it. They're too passionate about the game to let it just hang in the air, no matter how long its been since we had a story update. We need more 'see-saw' puzzles fs.

I'd hazard a guess that they're working on a totally new engine for Half-Life 3. Source, while still looking good has had it's time I think.

To be honest, I hope they avoid Episode 3 altogether. Ideally for me, they will make Portal 2 the swansong for the Source engine, and have already begun creating their next engine (be it Source 2 or whatever), and release HL3 on that.

Yep, same here. Full, proper Half-Life 3 I hope so.

I wouldn't be surprised if episode 3 turns out to be the test-bed for the new engine.

Valve have done it in the past...... Portal was small and short, and basically used as a test platform to see if people would like the style of gameplay.

There's also rumours that l4d was hastily coded and released quickly to test whether that style of gameplay would be successful, and when it was they rewrote the code properly and released it as a sequel.

It'd make sense. Spend all this time working on the new engine, and make ep3 to iron out any bugs and become familiar with the new features in time for HL3.

It has been so long that it seems stupid that episode 3 wont be Half Life 3. With a new engine or source seriously upgraded.

It's been so long I've completely stopped caring about Half Life.

Yeah I mean it was 6 YEARS ago HL2 was released.. I was doing my GCSEs then! I doubt many people will be as interested in EP3 as they were when they were playing HL2 and the following EPs... people change :(

I think there is a very real risk of Matrix syndrome with HL the first and OF were good the second slightly went off in terms of story and the third may end up destroying the goodwill that valve had. That G-man crap that they pretty much retconned in the episodes and the fact that valve are getting older makes a truly ground breaking 3 damn unlikely ymmv.
