GS5 to launch in January

While I'm desperately wanting manufacturers to push battery limits, this isn't really that huge of an improvement. Chances are the phone will use similar amounts of power, as any improvements in one department (SoC etc) are likely to be offset by the higher screen resolution (unless there's a decent improvement in power efficiency there too).

Any increase is nice, but I'd like to see something well on the other side of 3,000 mAh. How plausible that is however, I don't know.

Couldn't agree more, an extra 300mAh isn't going to set the world alight. It probably won't make any real world difference.

It's a little over 10% extra capacity, so if we assume that translates directly into 10% more battery life (which I'd wager is pretty unlikely), then it's nice, but hardly going to make a truly noticeable difference to most people.

If they could stick a 4000 mAh+ battery in there, then we'd be talking! The Razr Maxx has 3,300 mAh in a phone that's a little smaller in the S4, so I'm sure it would be possible for Samsung to put in more than the 2,900 mAh stated there.

Lets hope Samsung pull something excellent out of the bag this time!

edit - I don't have high hopes though

Tbh if all the rumours are true it not gonna be anything all that special, it still using the Snapdragon 800 with slightly higher clocks, the Exynos version won't see the light of day in the UK, the screen will be it biggest selling point, along with the new Touchwiz, another disappointment would be if the camera didn't also come with OIS which some rumours are saying it might not. :/

It's a tad expensive for such a small phone.

So by your simplistic logic, the larger the phone the more worth it has? The Archos 50 Platinum or Huawei Ascend Mate must be on your list of top phones then. ;)

The Z1 is an amazingly engineered device, much better build quality than almost anything else possibly barring the HTC One.

Yup, by all reports the hardware is going to be in line with whatever else is out on the market.. I really can't see so much of an overall difference to the S4 other than the software tweaks.

I was going to wait for it, but now I'm glad I went with the Z1.

I'm hoping and praying for something better than Android; but realistically this is going to be Android again :(

What do you expect them to change to? They can't go to iOS and Windows still isn't anywhere near as popular as it would need to be for them to stick it on their flagship.
