GT200 GTX280/260 "official specs"

I think GDDR3 will be fine being 512bit, I guess cost would have been an issue as well as R&D if it was GDDR5.

I suspect from what Ive read the GTX280 will beat the rv770xt but will come at a significantly higher price.

True, but the GTS320 (also a mainstream enthusiast part) was available at under £200 shortly after launch.

Still, it may be wishful thinking on my part - I'm kinda hoping that NV will be using conservative clocks (to keep it away from GTX280 levels) and place it not too far above the 9800GTX in terms of price point.

The big difference this time around is ATI should be competing with a very keen price point, even if they dont equal the performance of nvidias top cards they should be way better bang for the buck which should bring down nvidias prices.

I like the good old days when the only difference between the top card and 2nd best was clock frequency, you could just o/c to get the higher speed and save £££ :)

Damn I was thinking of going gtx260 for cost reasons but looks like it isnt just the lower ram and sps compared to the 280 there is more to it

We pretty much know how much the 280 will be as the 9800GX2 was 600 bucks at launch.

So typically the card will cost around £400-£450 and if you are lucky at launch you could find one around £375.

I hope the 280 doesnt require an 8 pin otherwise I'll have to buy a new psu as well, hopefully it will be like ATI when it was just needed if you o/c

(yeah I know I doubt it also)

Alledged 3dmark vantage comparison of gt200 & rv770:

Radeon HD 3870X2 25xx
Radeon HD 4850 Pro 20xx
Radeon HD 3870 14xx

This may be good news for the 4870x2 as in theory it may be able to compete with the gtx280 (obviously this is pure speculation!)

No it's not, it is the first Dual core GPU tho, the biggest change anyone has ever seen in GPU design, and Nvidia dont seem happy with. this thing has ATI release spoiler written all over it.

We are only speculating here until the NDA is lifted but everything I have read leads me to believe this is a souped up g92 and is not a dual core part.
