GT200 GTX280/260 "official specs"

Yes I agree, the price is the critical factor here, after looking over the bench marks in an ideal world I think a fair price for the card would be £350.

Agreed, its competing against the 9800gx2 but has more ram and ram bandwidth and is a more elegant solution - that is worth a premium but not a £150 premium

Oh dear, from anandtech:

"But then we have the question of whether or not you should buy one of these things. As impressive as the GT200 is, the GeForce GTX 280 is simply overpriced for the performance it delivers. It is NVIDIA's fastest single-card, single-GPU solution, but for $150 less than a GTX 280 you get a faster graphics card with NVIDIA's own GeForce 9800 GX2. The obvious downside to the GX2 over the GTX 280 is that it is a multi-GPU card and there are going to be some situations where it doesn't scale well, but overall it is a far better buy than the GTX 280."

Now I get it! The whole GTX280/260 is just a ploy to push up the price of the 9800GX2!

Don't forget you're comparing a single GPU card to a double GPU Card. I'd wait until wednesday when 3d guru is releasing the SLI and tri-SLI reviews of the GTX 200 series before making any premature judgements when comparing it to a different league ;)

Yes mate we really should wait and see how a 9800gx2 compares to a set of graphics cards costing £450/£900 and £1350 respectively
