GT5 Academy Times Thread

I did, had a crack at it for 20 minutes or so, the handling is all over the place and not the least bit predictable, so its been deleted.
Back to Forza 3, (the first time my xbox 360 has been used for gaming in over a year!)

But forza 3 has pants, arcadey steering....odd that you should choose that instead

Ive stuck at this but talking to a few guys it seems you really do have to spend hours at it to keep making progress.

must have spent about 15 hours at the TUNED car over the past week
Mostly in the last few days with 3-4 hour sessions.

Well Ive went from a Tuned 1'38.884 first posted here to a 136.936 which puts me currently 85th but almost 2 seconds off isnt bad.
Reckon Ive got a mid 1.36 in me and may eventually reach that but would like to make top 50

Well the handling on this "demo" is set to professional and stability control wont be set to on. Will be a completely different and easier animal when difficulty is changed.

Thats as maybe, but its predictable pants arcadey steering.

I know if I enter x corner at y speed I will get outcome z.

On this GT5 demo, I can enter x corner at y speed and get outcome a,b,c,d etc etc etc all the way to z.

Driving isnt like that, certainly not in high performance cars.

The handling model on this game is almost as bad as the dirt series.

Funny as im pretty sure in this i can enter a corner the same each time and the result is the same each time, using a wheel that is. It feels so much better with a wheel you can feel exactly when its going to go and when youre on the limit. The most annoying thing is the grass which is made from ice lol.

Okay so....
If the handling model is so bad or unpredictive why then do the leaderboards show such skill and such competitiveness.
In my current TUNED time a single "tenth" will raise me 13 places its that tight.

You dont say what your using to play the game but if your losing it mid corner then your either turning too fast/much with a rev/speed that is beyond the cars grip. Ive discovered for me smooth steering is what helps combined with gentle progressive throttle.
Both of these are much easier to do on a wheel.

Has anyone else with this this moved from PAD to WHEEL and found a major improvement in their ability and the fun?

Ive tried the normal car now and the standard tyres seem to have very little grip. Perhaps some would think a bit too little but then I feel FM3 has a bit too much in many of its car, making it more forgiving.

This does feel more on edge and nervous at the edge of the cars/tyres grip and im loving that about it. You wont fluke a good time out of this game and ive been having moments of sheer teeth gritted, manly grunting with hairs up on end trying to beat my times.

Anyone else find it has the ability to bring that out which is what racing game needs.
