GT5 Academy Times Thread

Fanatec GT3RS wheel has great reviews, but is exspensive!

Of course its not cheap its a pretty serious wheel.
However you could almost buy BOTH a GT3RS (wheel Only) and a discounted priced G25 for the price of the G27

Im currently using the GT3RS and G25 pedals for this TT.
I find the GT3RS comfier to use than the Turbo S.

1'40.003
and
1'51.2

pressure sensitive buttons are finally showing their limits, gonna have to switch to analog sticks, but dont have time/space for a wheel

Best to buy a G25 on discount if you want Logitech.
G27 too high a premium around £300 for little improvement.

Do consider however the Fanatec models and if you dont need the X360 support then Id recommend you buy the Fanatec GT3RS wheel.
By far the most comfortable with its Alacantara leather used in the real GT3RS Porsche.

If your new to wheels maybe start with the Logitech GT wheel available for around £50+ at the moment. Some of the guys at GTF have them and are doing well on the leaderboards.

what do you attach your wheel to?

what do you attach your wheel to?

Most wheels have desk type clamps.
Anything like a G25 or Fanatec allows the wheel to be bolted.

The most popular supports at present are:

"Fanatec Renn Sport Wheel Stand"
"Wheel Stand Pro"

These allow you to securly position and mount a wheel, angle, tilt and raise, lower it to you liking if sitting on a normal chair or like wise.
Expect to pay about £100 for these

Hmm, thanks

considering building my own custom table instead

Just to let you know @ gtforums with the current "GT5 TT" all you have to do is post a "Normal" & "Tuned" time.
A winner will be selected at random for a "Wheel Stand Pro" so anyone that lists their times could win one.

This is annoyingly hard. Why is the car so crazily slippy? Feels like your driving a drifting car.
I think GT games fail pretty bad at conveying a sense of speed, so cars often feel like they are not performing well but when you look at the speed you tried to take a certain corner at, and imagine how fast that would be in real life, the car's reaction seems fair.

But i do wish they introduced some sort of camera filter that gives you better sense of speed, like Race Driver Grid, that feels like your blasting at 200MPH all the time

Most have probs given up lol

I did, had a crack at it for 20 minutes or so, the handling is all over the place and not the least bit predictable, so its been deleted.
Back to Forza 3, (the first time my xbox 360 has been used for gaming in over a year!)

You are right. I think I'm doing about 30, and wondering why the back end is sliding so much at this speed. look at the speedometer and I'm doing 70. You get used to it though.

Best time: tuned car w/ pad = 1:41.673 standard handling settings.

So its difficult and most here seem to be sucking pretty bad at it with pads judging the times!
If do you have a pad and particulary one without dual shock then I bet it does give very little feedback or sense of control and the game is all about control in steering, throttle and braking.

I think comments and opinons on this are as mixed as they were with the Dreamcast version of F355 some loving it other hating it.
