The years-in-the-making Gran Turismo 5 has been delayed. The game was slated for release this March in Japan, but publisher Sony Computer Entertainment announced today that the game's release date is now TBA.

In an official release, Sony stated the release date will be announced at a later date. The company also apologized for any trouble that this delay has caused.

GT5 was first announced at the E3 gaming expo in Los Angeles back in 2006. According to GT series creator Kazunori Yamauchi, Gran Turismo 5 has cost $60 million to make. The game will feature over 1,000 automobiles and 20 different locations.

The game was playable in 3D at the recent CES show in Las Vegas. Sony previously announced it was shooting for "Summer 2010" for a Western release. No word on how this delay will impact those plans.

If it doesn't affect the EU launch then great, but otherwise LOL :/

So much for those who planned to import early.

Doesn't really sound good unless it is to make it a worldwide launch.

They may as well keep it for the PS4 at this rate as a launch title!!

No surprise there, always take GT games years to get released after a number of delays. Probably end up being one the PS3's end of life cycle releases.

It's probably delayed for the PS4. Yeah, why not. They really need to stick to their plans more, they seem very badly organised at Polyphony Digital. They must have a reasonable idea how long it should take, especially this far down the line. They should stop setting release dates and keep working on it until it's done, then set a release once they've ACTUALLY finished it. This is frustrating for fans of the GT5 series, but not unexpected.

As I said on other forums, "March" was an approximation and not a solid date.
Well it certainly wasnt dated specifically. It does make you wonder though "WHY" announce that and everyone waiting to play the game Im sure is pretty much fed up waiting.

The delay could be nothing to do with P Digital as it is Sony "CEOs" that decide the date or launch timeframe.

I just hope Summer doesnt turn into Autumn/Winter, what is more annoying is not knowing when the thing is coming.

If Microsoft can announce at E3 a date for FM3 months in advance it is about time we have a concrete date for GT5. Likewise Sony did this for the "PSP" version.

:(

Well I didn't see this one coming.

I beg to differ, it was confirmed as a March release date for Japan. Are you that blinkered to any negatives about GT5?

Tongue in cheek comment really. Seriously though, I wish they'd stop telling us when it might be out and actually get it done first.

I have to hand it to GT Fanboys, the amazing excuses and postives for this is quite impressive..

Kaz has been swanning around doing motorsport, and every glamourous event for the last god knows how long..

Personally, I think he's lost it a bit, and is well and truly resting on his laurels, and PD just aren't as productive without him physically there cracking the whip/driving the project forward.

The fact that GT Mobile was what it was just shows that despite his previous perfectionistic efforts, things aren't too well...

The real positive is that despite any of this, clearly the game will be allowed to be finished... which is all we really want, shame about the shockingly poor drawn out development of it..

[edit] Bah, storm in a teacup.. 1 month delay apparantly

Couldn't agree more with your points about Kaz, guy seems to be taking the pee. He's almost like a spoilt celebrity now, completely blinkered by everything except his own game, and seemingly holding it back as long as possible... I tell you something GT5 has to be good, really good now.

So let me get this straight

If you delay it, people cringe, lol and tell you so.

If you don't delay it but it takes along time in the making, people cringe, lol and troll.

this is all over nothing, its not TBA, its only a short delay. I frequent a jap forum which has a direct translation of what has actually been said be Sony. Unless more has been said since

Pretty much what i've seen

What Im saying is any game I know to have an official release date does so by a specific day/date. I personally was never 100% sure about that announcement as it was vague and indeed P Digital had delays with GT4 so its not unchartered terrority for them.

Kaz has said before he does not make the release date, he is only the developer not the publisher. That doesnt mean the game is finished and Sony are just hanging around.

Regards "negatives" when the game arrives Im sure like others I will find many.
Their will be many things Im sure to find fault in, just as their will be many things to praise in the game.

A delay isnt necessary a "negative" as we dont know what the delay entails.
It could be a game improvment thats being added, it could be licenscing issues, really any amount of things.

Sure it is a dissapointment particulary if this effects the EU/USA release dates. Importantly dont forget this was not commented on and GT5 could release in USA/EU before whatever the JAPAN date becomes.

At TGS GT5 was announced to arrive within the year. This was taken as "Dec" as it stated "4th Quater 2009" but in trade terms the "fisical year" goes to March 2010. To further credit that (excuse) Jack Tretton the Sony CEO of USA announced at E3 in a live video showcasing upcoming games that "All the games shown which included GOW III, Heavy Rain and GT5" would appear within the "Fiscal Year - March 2010"

We can only be getting really close to the launch date and no point moaning evn though its natural to do so.
I would say however that when "Game Art" is released a title is usually released within 3 months of that. Well FM3 and GT PSP are two recent examples which this applied to (you can check others) and it is in this last qtr of development when the games begin their full PR phase.

Tell me why did Sony release the "Game Art", if the game isnt due within the next 2-4 months? On past sales EU/USA are by far the biggest markets so whats to say these wont have a release date before "Japan" and this will be announced soon. Im sure others can show examples where Sony released "Games or Hardware" outside its native terrority first and although this can not be taken as the "situation" regards GT5 I suppose it cant be opposed neither as being a "possibility".

It releases when it releases but lets see if any announcements or news are made at "Brussels Motor Show"

With 110+ people working on the game I dont think he has to be hands on all the time. I bet you dont see Sir Alan Sugar popping down to the factory floors or offices and getting his sleeves rolled up. Also comments here by some going on about PS4 are just as much silly jesting. GT5 has as much chance of releasing on PS4 as Tiger Woods has of appearing on PGA 2011 cover.

GT-PSP is aimed at short term playing and an entry level for people to experience GT. He even said this in video interviews. Maybe younger kids who Id assume make up a good majority of the 50 million+ PSP owners think its alright. It will also benifit as a game more when GT5 releases allowing transferring of cars and replays etc from GT5 - the PSP version.

GTP is its own worst enemy as all too often they go off on speculation or assumptions and every little bit of news. They create too much spin and jump the gun too often. The MARCH thing is an example as where did they say to possibly take the announcment with caution?

Oh yes here in the first paragraph!
"Gran Turismo 5’s release window has just been set to March 2010 for Japan, according to Kazunori Yamauchi at the TGS press conference. This, unfortunately, runs directly counter to everything that we’ve heard so far from a wide variety of sources for nearly an entire year:"

The problem is most on the forums and other websites carry the news only see the big headlines and the spin then begins!
His concern didnt just mean the game wouldnt arrive at Christmas (TGS Speculation 4th QTR) but this didnt tie up with "rumours/speculation" of a possible close to worldwide release.

As an example Heavy Rain was announced about a week ago its releasing in Feb so sometimes release dates dont come that far before the release.
